Fan Issue with Asus Laptop after Warranty Repair

    Hey guys

Have an issue with an Asus laptop. It was bought by my sister at xmas. Had a battery issue though so was sent off for repair under warranty. It arrived back during the week. The warranty replacement note (From some crowd called "LetMeRepair Ltd" in Scotland - Asus' UK warranty repair provider I'm assuming) notes that the Mainboard and battery have been replaced. Unfortunately while the battery issue has been sorted, the new problem is that the fan is running what appears to be full load constantly, from immediately once the laptop is switched on. The CPU load or anything like that doesn't seem to have any effect on it.

I did a factory reset of windows 8.1(Which I wanted to do anyway) and it had no effect whatsoever. There's no option to control anything to do with the fan in the BIOS utility. There is no new BIOS or chipset software available unfortunately. I downloaded Speedfan which told me the CPU temperature seemed fairly low to me(Under 35 degrees). I attempted to make changes using sSpeedfan but I wasn't able to control the fan speed (Speedfan isn't compatible with all laptops unfortunately).

I'm no expert on laptops but I'm guessing this isn't a software related issue at this point. Doesn't anyone here have any ideas on anything else I may be able to try before having to send it away again? I'd really appreciate any advice!:)

You could try checking the fan connector. Should be relatively easy to access.

To be honest, I'd prefer not to open it seeing as I don't really have any experience with working with mainboards or soldering connections or anything like that. Am I better off just sending this back to them again I wonder? My gut feeling is that theres probably no software fix here..

    Send it back.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the motherboard, it could be as simple as a cable not being connected correctly, or it could be the motherboard not being able to read some temperature readings which causes the default fan on.

Unfortunate really! I have had issues with Asus support in the past (This was an old EEE pc, I can't even remember what the issue was but i had to send it back multiple times)

Check the bios settings. sometimes there is an option to set how the fan runs

OP has already stated there isn't any fan option in BIOS
