Does the registered owner of the car have to take car to the test or can a family member take it? Thanks

Just remember that the person bringing it has to produce photo id, either their driver's license or passport.

Out of curiosity could this be driving permit instead of driving licence?

A person driving on a driving permit would still needs a driver with a full license to accompany them to the test centre.

Yes, but that's not what I'm asking.
I'm asking if they would accept driving permit as a valid photo ID for NCT purposes. Has anyone tried it?

They stipulate a Driving Licence. There is no mention of a Learner Permit being acceptable.

So, why ask ???? You might as well ask if a Garda Age Card is an acceptable form of ID.
I thought you were fond of clear and precise rules Cinio ;).

    You've changed, Cinio.......:D

    Asking out of curiosity.
    Possibly someone has an experience.

AFAIK yes they will accept it. Know people on provisional that have brought their cars Themselves to be tested.

I presume the NCT centre, them not being Gardai, couldn't care less if you drive unaccompanied or not (just like driving testers couldn't give a hoot).

I only ever did one NCT (Rav4), and they actually didn't ask for any ID, nor did they ask for the logbook (which annoyed me, as I thought id lost it and spent all day tearing the place apart looking for it, only to not even need it in the end :( ).

That was last year, though. Perhaps they've tightened up a bit in that regard?

Might vary by centre but the Arklow NCT asked me for both my license and taxbook/logbook when I brought in my car last week. They asked everyone that I seen.

So better have them than not!

No I had mine last week and was only asked for my licence.
