Torn labrum in Shoulder (labral tear). Anyone had it?

Just gona preface this by saying I'm not looking for medical advice. Just want to hear some others experiences as apparently it's a common enough injury.

I hurt mine when I toppled over during a handstand on an unstable surface about 5 months ago. It hurt immediately but I thought nothing of it. I just kept training through it, expecting it to get better. It just stayed the same. That shoulder feels really unstable and sort of gives out during certain motions. I feel a horrible, grinding sensation when I have to lift something overheard.

After 4 months of pushing through the pain, I stopped doing any exercises for it, for about 3 weeks. I assumed it just needed a bit of rest and it would be grand. It still didn't show much improvement so i went to a physio about it. He did a few tests and suspects a torn labrum. I would feel more comfortable getting an MRI scan but I can't afford it right now.

He's put me on a rehab program using bands. It's a big blow for me cos I'm looking for work in the fitness industry and I play a lot of sports.

Just wondering if anyone has had this injury and how long did it take you to come back from it? Was surgery necessary? Please let me know, thanks.
