Green Cabinet upgrades - Does anyone know anything?

    Hey all,

First things first, I'm a newbie here, so don't mock me if I wrote in the wrong part of the forum.

I live in Mountmellick, Co. Laois. Eircom says that fibre network has reached this rather small town. However, although this has happened, not all green cabinets have been upgraded. One of these is the one on my estate.
I'm not an eircom customer for the last few months, so I rang my ISP (Vodafone) in relation to when is the cabinet going to be upgraded, but apparently they didn't have a clue. So today I pulled what appears to be a daring move; I rang eircom. It turns out that these ... don't want to answer to anyone that is not their customer. What the lady on the phone said was that "although eircom owns the lines, you have to call your provider in relation to that".

And I come to ask 2 things:
    1) Since eircom appears to know jack **** about the work they charge the taxpayers for the work they don't bother doing, does anyone in here know anything about when will the cabinet I'm relying on be upgraded; or anywhere where can I find out for sure? Btw, irelandoffline.org and fibrerollout.ie say that status is: "Planned for this location".

and 2) Since when does a customer service agent have the audacity to not know about the things they were supposed to, or redirect me to someone who does know?

You won't get much information from either Eircom's or Vodafone's customer service. They wouldn't know anymore than you do.

"work they charge the taxpayers for the work they don't bother doing" What do you mean?

If it's planned, then they'll upgrade it when they're good and ready, it's just that areas with higher population density come first.

Sorry, I typed it a bit badly. But when I try to fix that syntax error it gets stuck.

Well, that's what I've been hearing for about a year. And since many people seem to know quite a lot of things here, that's why I asked if anyone knows how to find out.

Just go to here and select the NGA map and take a look, before tearing Eircom anew one!

I checked it before posting here. This only refers to Exchange points, and the one in Mountmellick has been upgraded since September. My question therefore is still unanswered; Where can I find specific info regarding when will they upgrade green cabinets (MMK1_011 in particular)?

If its not on the website, you cant. Its a regulated product so once they decide to release a date it goes on the site for all to see.

Clearly you didn't check properly, the link will show you all cabs and exchanges when you click on NGA network. There's nowhere else to get the information.

That cabinet is planned for upgrade. I assume there is some problem there as it's the only cabinet in the town not yet done. I suppose you should be happy that it is planned. Unless you know someone inside Eircom I'd say your chances of getting a date are slim...it could well be something beyond their control. Check planning applications... Maybe one of your neighbours objected.
