Have been searching for a new car for the last month and at this stage I am looking at either a Nissan (because of the scrappage deal) or else a Dacia.

The Dacia Sandero Signature 1.5 model is currently just shy of €16,000. I have rang around a few showrooms in Dublin and have been told there are no scrappage deals on the Dacia but they do accept trade ins. Has anybody bought a Dacia recently with a trade in? Im just wondering what type of money I would get for a 04 Nissan Almera? If I could get 2 grand as a trade in I would be happy as I would add another 3 grand to that which would mean I would be financing 11 grand. This is my first time buying a new car so havnt a clue if I should be haggling or just accept what I am offered when it comes to a trade in. . I live in Cavan where there are no Dacia dealers so need to drive to Dublin to visit these places. Dont want to bother if they are going to laugh me out the door :)

    Thanks

You will get paid the actual value of your trade in with no inflated value or gimmicks attached.

Margins on the Dacia range are 4-5% depending on the model. They don't do scrap page schemes etc so you won't get discounts.
You should focus on the cost to change not the trade in value as it is more indicative of how good the deal is. Also look at what you're getting and the running costs.

To answer you're question, I doubt you will get offered €2k for you're Almera. I do know a garage recently offered an Almera to the trade and got 1700 but it was in excellent condition, had a full service history and low mileage. I'd imagine you'd at best get about that.

An 11 year old Almera is not going to be worth a whole lot but I think €2k trade-in could be achievable. What you need to do is shop around different dealers as there could be varying trade-in values.

Ideally though, the most cost effective way is to sell your Almera privately. Any trade-in allowance a dealer gives you is basically just a discount off the Dacia. In other words if you didn't have the Almera to trade you would probably get the same discount off the Dacia but you would have the bonus of adding what you got for the Almera privately in your pocket too.

Of course selling a car private is not always straight forward either, dealing with time wasters and strangers coming to your house, etc.

Taking the standard delivery charge of €600 in to account, I'm being offered less than 3% discount off a Sandero Signature Diesel. May not be the dealers whole margin, but it's going to be most of it. They make no money selling new Dacia's, so have to turn a profit on Trade in's.

Market value of a 2004 Almera seems to be / around €2,000, so realistically it's worth €250 - €500 to a dealer, so he can make a bit selling it on.

To quote my dealer when he sent me updated pricing on Wednesday
Couple of little things you need to know about the Dacia range. A) They’re never available and B) They’re never available

Finally, there's a Renault/Dacia dealer between Cavan and Dublin, who's very good to deal with. Venture across the border to Meath and you'll find them there.

500 ish for metallic and 600 for delivery, still doesn't quite make all the difference though.

    Another 500-600 for extended warranty?

Thanks everybody for the replies. Taking all your answers into account I think maybe I am better going down the route of getting a new Opel or Nissan as I can get 3000 off with Opel and 4000 off with Nissan with their scrappage deals.
