I'm looking for some help choosing a laptop. Maybe the following information will help you help me:

    1. I do not play video games.

    2. I will not be using the laptop outside of bedroom, I have a good phone and tablet for travel and a couple of android boxes about the place for other rooms in the house.

    3. I never use my dvd drive.

    4. I like to download and stream hd movies so I'm looking for fast wireless

    5. I don't want the laptop slowing down if i want to browse the net while i'm downloading, transferring files or running a program at the same time.

    6. I wouldn't say I know a lot about laptops but I do know they're not as simple to upgrade as pc's but i'd like some possibility of upgrading in the future.

    7. I don't know much about the different types of hard drives. I'd like something that transfers files quickly. Good storage too.

    8. Full HD display.

    9. I don't have a budget really but I do not want to be paying crazy prices for stuff I'll never use as I'm not a gamer.

    Thanks for reading.

I don't have any laptops to recommend unfortunately but I do recommend that you look into getting an SSD for your laptop as it will significantly increase the performance of your laptop and you can also use the Stock HDD as a storage drive(replacing your DVD Drive). I've done it on 3 laptops. Ones 4 years old and boots up faster than a brand new laptop.

As far as 'fast wireless' is concerned unless you have access to cable or fibre then even wireless g will be faster than your internet connection.

If you do have cable or fibre then you are in a more densely populated area where every man and his dog has a variety of wireless devices and you will suffer from interference.

If you don't plan on moving the laptop out of the room, I would suggest a small HTPC-type computer instead.

For streaming, the Wi-Fi module should be Intel Dual-Band AC 7260HMW. Alternatively, a wired HomePlug kit.

For future-proofing, get an Intel i5 dual-core or i7-quadcore CPU.

8Gb RAM is cheap enough that it should be your baseline minimum.

SSD drives are the best for an OS, but 5400/7200 HDDs still offer the most Gb/price ratio.

I have 240mb with UPC. I'm getting a dual band 802.11ac router when I get this laptop.
