    Hi,

Does anyone know if you can get an Aircoach from Bray to Dublin (but get off at City Centre, instead of going to Airport).

Looking to see if there is an option to get back to Dublin after the last Dart and Dublin Bus has finished - something cheaper than an expensive taxi... Thought about the aircoach since that runs through the night, but not sure if Aircoach allow you to get off at the stops?

No, they are not allowed to as per the terms of their licence. I tried to take the Aircoach into town like this during the big freeze a few years ago and that's what I was told.

Thanks, yeh I thought that might be the case... altho thinking about it, even if I got the aircoach to the airport, and got another one from the airport, it'd still work out cheaper than a taxi and not too bad since id be getting off on the first stop after the airport, at the o2.... obviously thats messy tho and probably be waiting, and not really worth it..

is there any other options after dublin bus/dart has finished, to get out of bray, other than taxi? I'm guessing not

The bus Eireann bus (133 I think) goes through Bray into town not too sure what time it stops at or if it goes through the night but could be an option

The Aircoach service to and from Dublin City Centre and the airport runs 24 hours, so if you did go to the airport, you wouldn't be waiting too long at the airport to get back into town.

It runs every 15 minutes during the day.

It runs every 30 minutes between 23:55hrs to 03:25hrs.

Fair enough, but if you bought a ticket in Bray to go to the airport, and just before the O2 you felt unwell, or realised you had left your passport at home, could the driver refuse to let you out at the next stop, which is the O2 ?

Certain Bus Éireann services have the same rule, that particular stops are only pick up points.

An example is the Translink Ulster Bus/Bus Éireann Belfast Dublin service. On the services from Bus Aras to Belfast, the airport is a pick up point only and Newry, Banbridge and Sprucefield are drop off points only.

Also, coming from Belfast; Newry, Banbridge and Sprucefield are pick up points only and the airport drop off only.

I don't really know why there is a ruling that they can't take a fare from Bus Aras to the airport, or from the airport into Bus Aras/ City Centre, but I understand that it's part of the licence from the National Transport Authority.

Often there is enough space on these Dublin Belfast services from the airport into Dublin City Centre and from Bus Aras to the airport. Usually, it's at the airport that these services fill, on the way to Belfast and on the services coming from Belfast, most passengers alight at the airport.

I guess the ruling about not allowing Newry as a pick up point on the services from Dublin, is to ensure that it doesn't interfere with Translink Ulster Bus's own local services.

Would the NTA stipulate that Bus Éireann/Translink Ulster Bus cannot take people from Bus Aras to the airport, or from the airport into Dublin City Centre on their Dublin-Belfast service, so as not to interfere with aircoach's service?

Before I realised that Aircoach ran the 24 hour service to and from Dublin City Centre and the airport, I couldn't understand the logic of not being able to get to the airport from Bus Aras on the Bus Éireann/Translink Ulster Bus Dublin - Belfast services, for example at night after 11.30pm, when there are no Dublin Bus 747 services until the following morning.

Can't imagine the bus driver could really stop you getting off... assuming it was stopping anyway there to let people on, I am sure you could talk yourself into getting off. Even still though, going to the airport, and then getting another aircoach from Airport to O2 would work out a lot cheaper than getting a taxi to dublin from bray.... although yeh messy and would take longer. Still an alright option for late night after Dublin Bus and Dart have finished.

No wasn't going to Bray specifically for the comedy festival - didn't know about that, but I may be in the pub that it is on in anyway, so coincidence I may be at it - cool :)

Can anyone imagine just how pleasant an actual private coach service from Bray to the city centre would be?

I could easily see three coaches leaving the Main St every morning - and not a taxpayer subsidy in sight!

Bray to Dublin is well served by the frequent 145 and the DART and suburban rail. Certainly a coach would be more comfortable than a city bus but it would need to be one or more of substantially quicker, cheaper and offering some variation in route to be a success for it's operator. There is the Swords Express on the north side. It offers an alternative route into Dublin to the 41, 33 and 43 via the Tunnel which is quicker and more comfortable but it charges more than Dublin Bus do. I am sure it can be done but who's going to do it and how is the question.
