UPC customer: Apple Airport extreme worth it

    Hi,

I am a UPC broadband customer. Wifi currently provided by the Cisco EPC3925 modem/ router supplied by UPC.

I havent been really happy with connectivity recently - signal dropping out etc.

Am thinking of getting an Apple Airport Extreme for better coverage through the house and a stronger signal (although I haven't seen the numbers - I'm assuming this would be the case?).

Anyone done this or have an opinion as to whether its worth it?

We have no 802.ac devices yet.

    Cheers,

I'll answer my own question - I bought the Airport today.. wireless speed has gone from 10 to 110 megs.

    Definitely worth it.

Seems expensive for a wireless access point.

Sounds like your cisco router was probably misconfigured.

I am getting over 100Mpbs from my 5 years old 802.11n Airport Extreme, so I assume latest generation ones have no issue delivering that speed with N devices.

UPC's router, while newer, doesn't come anywhere close.

It is not a Cisco vs Apple thing, but in general most routers which are cheap or integrated to ADSL or cable modems provide by ISPs have poor Wi-Fi compared to more expensive dedicated routers/access points. You get what you pay for ...

Nope. The 2425 and 3925s are junkers.

I'd have bought the C7 not the airport, but both are solid units.
