I am a permanent teacher in Cork. However I am from Kerry and would like to return home to live there. Its proving very difficult. Does anyone know if you can apply to be put on the panel in Kerry as I am already a permanent teacher?

No you cannot ask to be put on the panel. To get on the main panel your school must have lost a teacher and you must be the last teacher hired. To get on the supplementary panel you must work up the required temporary service, the last year at least of which must be in your desired panel location.

The replies to your last thread on the same topic still stand.

    Are you sure about that?

I think i remember in an earlier thread someone mentioning that you could swop places with the last teacher in!

You can - If your school is losing a teacher, if the last teacher in isn't hoping to do the same, and If the panel you're in and the panel you want to be in, allow a swap between them.

Should have mentioned, being on the panel doesn't guarantee you a permanent job in the area you want.

Ok gotcha, how about bypassing panel and finding a teacher in kerry who wants to swop! This came up before also but I think there was a year trial run and having to 'advertise/interview' for the position !!
There really should be a better/easier system in place to facilitate this.

Yep you can swap with a teacher if both boards of management agree, but it's temporary, and for up to five years.

Does anyone know if permanent Swaps or transfers are allowed in other professions? It's probably to do with the oversupply of teachers?

The INTO is pushing for the "swaps" to be allowed become permanent.
