Hope this is in the right forum,
So basically iv my licence sense 2012 and was put name driver on my partners policy, early 2013 I had a very minor accident where I put a small scratch into passenger door of a ladys car, very minor damage was 1200 ( fancy car) which insurance company paid out. But anyhows still insured as name driver as himself policy went up a good bit and lost no clams.
I am now looking to get my own car and policy and insurance company were already with wanted 2200 over minor accident. The accident came up on him not me, so basically iv been told by alot that to not tell insurance companies and start off fresh as it was on his policy not mine that I'd be stupid to say anything due to it been very minor??
Iv no idea any advice welcomr

The accident affects both of you, and it's insurance fraud to not disclose that you've had an accident.

You were the one who had the accident and it must be disclosed. Otherwise you are knowingly withholding facts, which affect the quote in your favour, which is fraudulent. It makes no difference whether it was your partners policy, your own policy, or if you were driving uninsured. You still have to disclose the facts and answer their questions honestly. This is also true, if someone crashed into you and caused a tiny scratch on your car.

You must disclose Accidents, Claims and Convictions. You had the accident, your partner had the claim.

Not being honest about a previous claim is fraud. And if you do have an accident again, and they hear about the other crash, they could be within their rights to cancel your policy. There was an insurance broker on here a few weeks ago. He had a thread in ask me anything, forum. Be completely honest with them. You should have paid for that bump out of your pocket, and not have loaded your partners policy.

Tanks for all the replies, I told insurance company about it today so all is good and insurance quote was still fairly good so happy enough, and just to say i had initially wanted to say it to insurance company from the start to be safe but was told I'd be stupid but am very happy I have told them, and also to those saying I shouldn't of let my partner pay fir it on his policy and to of paid it my self we tried but lady of who I tipped refused to let us pay her and wanted it put through insurance so we had no other option. Once again thanks for advice and would now please ask moderator to remove my post.

Being pedantic and you mentioning honesty and fraud in the opening line. Technically you are supposed to inform your insurance company of all accidents even if you pay for it yourself, so even paying for it yourself can result in a loading as your risk profile has changed.

If all completed threads were closed, there wouldn't be a boards.ie

This might come in useful for people asking the same question.
