I'm realising that I care massively about those who pay a lot of tax and then are expected to shell out even more tax or else forego tax breaks so the lesser or non-taxpayers can have a better deal. Really pissing me off more and more.

I'd say I'm empathetic but it's a lot easier to be when you're not hooked on the news 24/7. There's only so much misery you can take in and empathise with - after you hit a certain point the rest runs through you like a current in the ocean

you can see this in any discussion on the water charges.
usual rabble making wild accusations about the dole etc..

cos they've the money they don't give a damn and make snide remarks about those who are less well off and protest about it

the topic is the subject of apathy and whether we are becoming more and more selfish and uncaring to what's around us from our local communities to the atrocities in other countries. the title is a reference to the fact that if it's not landed "on our doorstep" we often don't care nearly as much.
