If you could make a sleeper

Seen this idea on the etcg facebook page and so though it would be an idea to see what everyone's idea of a sleeper here would be

Mine for instance would be a pt cruiser running possibly a hybrid engine of some sort with a 4wd subaru chassis for the craic

obviously engineering, common sense and the like doesn't come into play here
So your idea of a sleeper? What is it?

The rover 220 tomcat is a wolf in sheeps clothing but is getting a little old. Always wanted one though lol. Not exactly a v8 but more grunt than most and nice handling

Keeping it all in one family.

1991 Nissan sunny, with a Nissan VK45DE 4.5L V8, Twin Turbos, Supra 6 speed gearbox, with a part Nismo pulsar Vrz suspension, and converted to Rwd.

a prius with the veyrons w16 engine in it and 4wd, straight through exhaust and tune it to run rich. leave the batteries in for weight.

a super fast prius that does about 6mpg is what I'd be aiming for.

MG ZT 260. Looks like a Rover 75, but rear-wheel drive and a V8. There's a supercharger kit that bumps the 260bhp up to 400 so not too far off :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,982 ✭✭✭Caliden

    Mk4 golf r32 with a turbo'd vr6.

It could be made to look like a regular golf but it could have 500+hp

That supercharger kit is abslutely ridiculously priced, like 5-6k sterling though :(

Either a Corolla liftback with 4wd and a d turbo lump for everyday use/3sgte for embarrassing plenty

Or a C220 Diesel with an OM606 and compound turbos and 7mm elements...

Habusha backed original Mini with AWD. Its been done and its proper quick.

    That or the 400hp Yaris.

A cinquecento sporting with a hyabusa Mid mounted rwd conversion!

Friend of mine built a Ford ka road car with a 1.6 cvh from an xr2.fast road cam,
Twin 40 Webbers, cherrybomb exhaust, mondeo 2l brakes.

Stripped out interior with two blue sparco race seats..
Such a sleeper and amazing fun!

The original 2.5 Forester XT, rebadged as a diesel Suzuki Vitara and with lower profile performance tyres and way stiffer anti-roll bars. 25mm drop?

    suzuki+gran+vitara+4x4+2+0+diesel+2001+cruz+alta+rs+brasil__78D440_1.jpg

    2004-Subaru-Forester-2.5-XT-1.jpg

    5.3s 0-60 allegebly*...

"Most of the smileage was brought on by the 2.5XT's unceasing willingness to make usable torque and to scream across intersections in first gear, which is an extra-deep 3.45:1 (the same as in base Foresters). The boost comes on right now, enhanced by a limited-slip viscous rear differential and 4.44:1 axle ratios, shorter than the 4.11:1 diffs on other Foresters. Also beneficial is a curb weight of only 3289 pounds, 78 more pounds than a no-blower 2.5X we tested in July 2002. The force-fed flat-four's combination of torque, gearing, and weight will get you a blazing 0-to-60 time of 5.3 seconds and a quarter-mile of 13.8 seconds at 97 mph, just 0.3 second slower than an $89,665 Porsche Cayenne Turbo (see page 62)."

An Audi RS4 with a 1.9 tdi engine in it....

Seriously though, a standard looking Audi A4 with diesel badges but with a proper RS4 engine and running gear. The total opposite of felt spec.

K20 Honda Type R engine conversion to an old school mini. Take out the glass and replace it with lightweight glass. Remove and weight items like aircom etc. Upgrade the brakes and suspension to handle the new power and away I go.

    I'd like a vw Bora with 4wd 6 cylinders and 272 bhp :(

If i was doing it again though it would be something Vr and turbo'd this time.

An understated E39 540i would be nice. 4.4l 8 cylinder 217 kw and looks like a nice tidy but oldish and nothing special 520 or so. I'd love that.

Corolla estate with a 20V 4A-GE in it. Fairly mild but would frighten a few people :D Or what would be even better but a lot more work would be the same estate with Celica GT-4 running gear

Great sleeper potential in Toyota & Nissan since most of their recent stuff has been fairly tepid.

An actual sleeper in Ireland? It'd have to be a stock-looking Qashqai with a GT-R engine. Baby on board sticker on the back, and Disney sunshades on the windows to complete the look.

Often thought about a sleeper car but on a serious note the only thing that really springs to mind is sumthing with a Volvo t5, tuned a bit, debadged. Average person on the street couldn't tell the difference between a t5 or a 2.0d. Say an s40 or v50. Standard looking cars really I suppose. Most of the suggestions so far are kinda jokey ones or mad conversions which cost big bucks, which is grand obviously!
But genuine sleepers I can't think of too many factory cars, say no engine conversions etc
Ps I know the OP said about common sense and stuff not coming into it, just thinking a t5 is a realistic option, if sumone really wanted to go down that route. I know I would if the funds were there !

Something Gaelic. Peugeot 405/406 towbar hdi badge with the engine that was in the orginal French version of taxi. Now that's a sleeper that would fit in well in the west of Ireland.

T5 would be a fairly cheap option I should think.
    I've always had a hankering for an 850 T5-R.
I was at a ploughing match donkeys years ago a a kid and asked the guy at the Volvo stand for a brochure for one, they didn't have one but they posted it to me a few days later. Which was epic! Maybe that's part of why I like Volvos.

For stealthy hooning I would like one of these with an electric butterfly valve in the exhaust.
It's not fast enough to be "that" kind of sleeper but still..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,019 ✭✭✭davycc

I had a 850 t5 manual estate in stealthy dark green and it went well and sounded great and never got a second look from the cops / joyriders which suited me nicely :-)

Didn't keep it long enough to play around with remapped ECU etc.
    For shame!

You've clearly never been in one. A 535d is not a slouch and the remap / torque potential is insane.
