Any old style push in stereo will fit.

You can get clips to insert to pull out or take screws out of ash tray and pull front of panel/dash off.

Its not too difficult on these era cars much harder these days with the built in radios.

You can get cd player in Argos or sometimes lidl or aldi

But what about the top head unit ? The main reason I want to replace the system is that the button is broken on this radio head unit.

That will just show fuel and temp.

The radio screen will be on the cd player you fit.

    They are handy enough.

Is there no way of putting a radio up where this unit is ?

No you would fit radio down where numbers are and you have a tray to leave loose items.

The turn up/down knob would then have no function when radio is fitted.

I'll have to try source a replacement head unit, the O/I button is broken so needs to be changed. Along with the dash board lights and I think a few behind the ashtray/heater matix. Any idea where I could get these bulbs? A nice blue color would be nice !

Only if you're gonna replace your stereo with the same (factory spec) model. Otherwise you won't need that button anymore.

Don't go blue. Stay with green.

had one of these cars exact year too! pull off the 2 knobs (temp control and fan speed) and there is a screw behind that. That dash part pulls out easily, just be gentle.

The metal unit slides out and the clips behind can be pulled out and then the screws in the side of the cradle holding the radio pop out.

My 00 got written off before xmas and took out the Pioneer CD/radio and wiring from it still.

    LEDs or ordinary bulbs?

You can fit a single din radio where the trip computer is if you can pick up a radio pod from a g6/g6r. The upshot of this is that the radio will be in a much better location and there is much more space to work with. It will also be a little easier to remove the head unit in future if the need arises.

The downside to fitting it up on the dash is that you will lose your trip computer. This might bother some but others wouldn't miss it.

As for the dash bulbs, blue ones won't work well at all. The won't light up the console properly and they won't match the rest of the dash lights.

Go to a motor factors and get the right bulbs. These will be clear, not colored and 1.2 watt.

A box of those bulbs should set you back around €5, which is much cheaper than a single bulb for €2.49
