I've noticed that the new golf has no key hole to manually unlock the door if the remote locking button doesn't work. Am I missing something?

If you pull out the door handle. Look under it, there's a cover there. You can use your key to pop the cover off and the lock is behind it.

Alot of cars have been this way for years. The remote fob should have a metal blade in it and a key hole under the exterior handle for manual entry.

Sound! Was wondering, thanks for your help! Which brings me to my next question! Passats have an internal key but I presume this wont start the engine if the remote is broken?

Yes and no. Remote mightn't work but ignition still might.

If it can still detect the fob it will start.
