Finding out Previous Insurers - 9 years ago?

    Hi all. General question really.

Given that I'm one to price around and practically move from one insurance company to another every year I'm wondering if there's a list or a body that keeps track of who you were insured with?

Naturally enough I didn't think this would bother me until I got my renewal from my current insurer stating I've 5+ years no claims and am on the top of their discount list. Problem there is that some companies like Liberty want you to prove that you have up to 9 years NCB.

Is it a matter of phoning up each and every one to find out who the hell I was with in any given year? :D

    Thanks in advance.

Unlikely that all of them will have that type of archive data online. Some might so you could call them but data protection legislation means that they will probably refuse to disclose any data over the phone without a policy number. Otherwise you could be a private investigator on a fishing expedition so they will be reluctant to deal with a vague query along the lines of 'Hi, my name is James O'Connor of 1 Main St., Tallaght, was I insured with you guys at some stage in the past 10 years?'

Business' are only required to keep personal information about someone on file for up to 6 years. After that they may archive it and store it off site.
However, with digital technology nowadays, accessing the information held about you may be easier.
Liberty would want to be offering me a huge saving to be going to the trouble of tracing 9 years of insurance no claim records.

You could get the NCB letter your current insurers have on file from your previous insurer, and so on, until you reach nine years ago. But I'd be suprised if Liberty give an extra discount for 9 years (as opposed to the usual 5 years).

I always though NCD was given on 5+ years. Whether you have 6 or 60 years is irrelevant. I'm open to correction. No need to be chasing old insurers.
