Vodafone Fibre Installation

im getting vodafone fibre installed this coming friday.
my main socket is in the hall, will the vodafone tech move it to another room.
i want the modem beside the computer in 1 of the bedrooms.
from the main socket at the minute there is about 20-25ft of telephone cable going to a socket in the wall in the room where the computer is
if he ends up connecting the modem to the master socket in the hallway, is the existing phone cable good enough to carry the signal to the bedroom without much signal loss or would i need a run of cat 5e or cat 6 cable.
it would be handy enough to run the cat 6 cable if needed. its just tacked along skirting board and through 1 wall.

No, fibre has to be installed to the main socket, can't be anywhere else in the house. You can buy long ethernet cables on amazon or ebay though, if you want access in another room outside of using wifi.

If you ask in advance they can run a new point fed from the master. They'll go 30 or 40ft where practical.

i might get the cable myself , make the exact length i want and crimp the rj45 connections on. i see the the 2 ethernet cables that are in the box with the modem are cat 5. will cat 5 cable be ok or should i get cat 5e or 6
i think the ports on the vodafone modem are 100mb/s so i guess no speed advantage in using cat 6

They'll need to pay, KN are no longer allowed do data port extensions for Vodafone customers. The easiest thing is throw the tech 20 quid see if he'll do it because Vodafone will charge you much more and you'll need to have it pre ordered

    Ouch, stingy.

Surfn you could make your own VDSL point by running cat5e and fitting a faceplate in the other room. Its very simple to wire it onto the back of the NTU.
Otherwise leave the modem in the hallway and run it as ethernet to a switch in your computer room.

On Vodafones part yes, they want to get away without paying for any in-house work at all. They do not pay for fitting the modem instead post it to the customer for self installation. They will provide a DPE on request but charge for it.

so basically i plug my cat5e cable into the main socket in hallway which vodafone tech install, run the cable to the room i want it in. the face plate for the room i want it in, does it have to be the same kind of face plate they install or will a cat5e faceplate do. when i have that done just connect the ntu to the faceplate in the room needed

Put an RJ11 plate in the remote room, connect a twisted pair (eg blue + blue&white) to the centre terminals. Same pair on the rear of the NTU. Easy.
