I'm looking to move on from my current position and have started to apply for a few jobs that catch my eye. I seen one advertised through a recruitment agency about two weeks ago so I emailed them my CV. Last Friday I got a call from a small accountancy firm. They said they were conducting interviews on behalf of their client and we arranged a date and time. I asked them what company the job was with but they couldn't tell me. All I could get from them is that it was in a small village a few miles from Galway. Personally, I don't think its acceptable to expect a person to take a days holidays, drive to the other side of the country for an interview and not tell them who the jobs with. I'm thinking of cancelling. What do ye think?

you'll probably get a heap of different answers here, I imagine not many would think it a very professional to not state the name but a couple of years back I got a call for a job (which I don't even remember applying for) who also didn't state who or where they were, the interview was in a hotel and there was a bit of delay between initial contact and job interview (about two weeks), they also wanted three written references with a couple of day's notice and everyone I spoke to advised me to steer well clear. I went anyway and was offered the position there and then and I'm glad I did because it was one of the best jobs I ever had. (granted it was only a temporary contract but it gave me a great start in an area that would otherwise have been difficult for me)
I don't know why they were so secretive, I figure maybe they were attempting to lessen the chances of having a large amounts of applicants, or maybe hoping to avoid the splurge of locals who would have inundated the premises looking for work. I dunno, but it worked for me.

No way do you got to an interview where it is not clear who/ what you are interviewing for. Tell them to **** off.
