Just saw this on the calendar and I am curious. Is it a 2 day for Ladies and Masters only?

Does anyone have any details? I know it is a few months off...

    Thanks!

As far as I know it will be for non-Cat1 and 2 Masters and ladies, or something like that. It's a great opportunity for people who want to get into Madters racing. I'm sure there will be more details at some stage.

Yep, ladies and masters, as it says on the tin :)
AFAIK, there's one road stage on the Saturday, and Sunday has a TT and road stage.
    I'll be there!

Don't have route details or anything yet, but it's confirmed, and is on the (just launched 10 mins ago) women's racing calendar

"Masters" is presumably referring to the category established a few years ago and continued to be raced in Ulster - A4s over 50, and not the M40, M50, M60 cats introduced last year (which do not exclude A1s, A2s or indeed A3s)

No, I don't think so. I think it's Masters as in CI rules now, but with Cat 1&2s excluded. But I'm not certain and have nothing to do with the organizing of it - best wait for details

The womenscycling link shows another event promoted by the same club with reference to masters "over 50". The A4 50+ cat is the only one that is given the generic title of "Masters". With the M40, M50 and M60 cats I'm not even sure if it's possible to exclude A1s and A2s, as I think these are "open" categories within the age definition (and indeed must be for the nationals champs for these categories, which is what the driver was behind their creation)

You also have a 'Senior' category, and lots of Senior races exclude some Senior categories (e.g. Cat 4 excludes the other three etc etc).

Race will be A4 40 - 49, A3 & A4 50+. Race organiser always has discretion when running a race (within reason and within CI rules). So these are the cats I have chosen. Women's race will be separate. Road stage Saturday morning, 10k TT in the evening. Stage 3 Sunday morning. Should have everyone on the road home for 2pm. More details later. Finally we are running an over 50's and women's race on Feb 28th to get everyone in the mood. More details next week.

Are you in Beasty we haven't had a aul head to head for a few years now?

No way I'll be up for a 2-dayer this year. Any road races will be short ones (and not if there is a risk of bad weather). Hopefully I'll be OK for track racing, one or two in the club league and a few vets races (mainly TTs). Might also do the odd Masters race (50+ A4) in Ulster but it's all going to be preparation for (hopefully) Manchester in October

Having said that my back is so bad at present I can barely walk let alone ride a bike ....

I'm gonna see if I can get down to this. Gonna have to try to rearrange some plans tho as I didn't think m40 A3 were eligible. Fingers crossed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭NCW13

Just to confirm, A3 is included.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,460 ✭✭✭lennymc

    A3 m40?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭NCW13

The race is for Masters. So only M prefix on the licence can enter. We are further restricting to A3 / A4 only. No A1 / A2 entries will be accepted in the 40 - 49 bracket.

Maybe your chance to get into management - put a team together and enjoy giving them orders and watching them suffer for the weekend!?

cheers for clarifying. Ill try to rearrange my schedule.

Was going to send entry in today or tomorrow for this, presume still plenty of spaces ?

Also Mr Google didn't show up a lot with respect to local accomodation and from what I remember there is not a lot in Broadford. Any B&Bs to recommend in the area ?

Failing this, van is setup with a comfy bed and would be looking to pull up in the carpark of a pub/restaurant. Any of the pubs in Broadford do decent food ?

Try Newcastle West for B&B's. Plenty of choice there. Only 10 mins to Broadford. TT will start in Dromcolliher and plenty of places to have lunch there.

Lots of places left in the race. Don't expect to have to refuse anyone. But no entries on the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭NCW13

Pre-entry by post now extended to Thursday April 9th. EOL will be available on the day, but will cost an extra €10. EOL to be completed before 10.30am on Saturday.

Well done to all, enjoyed the racings, hopefully more similar events to follow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,569 ✭✭✭harringtonp

Great event with 53 masters riders and 36 ladies starting. Good finishing numbers too in spite of the weather earlier on Sunday.

Highly recommended, felt very safe and great fun to be able to "race" (get up the road a bit if so inclined) rather than just trying to hang on to the coat tails of juniors !

Hopefully this is the start of some more events like this and they will be well supported.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,460 ✭✭✭lennymc

sounds like a good event. I was unable to rearrange my schedule to make it down, but, if it's on next year, and the categories are confirmed in advance I will definitely be at it.

Was a great event, tough weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday races were faster than the A4 races on the same routes at the start of March.

    There's a report on Stickybottle - http://www.stickybottle.com/races-results/strong-showing-lands-forrest-two-day-win-as-whelan-too-quick-on-final-stage/

It didn't get the name of the event right - there's no more 'Vets' in CI - and it doesn't give the M50, M60 pr tea, results, so they don't seem to 'get' the new Masters idea. Still, it's better than nothing (it says Tom Shanahan didn't finish stage 3 - the Limerick CC Facebook says he came down in the crash on the climb on the second lap and had a mechanical. A pity after great ride on Stage 1).

Yes I think that crash was due to a touching of wheels on the lower part of the climb. A few went down but as it was slow it didn't look too serious. Just about managed to stop and unclip in time. Three of us including the Polish guy who finished 3rd had a long hard chase to get back to the 11 leaders managing to do so 3-4km before the next time up the climb (where I ended up getting dropped again).

..as it was slow it didn't look too serious..

I fell in that and thought it was slow too, but the Garmin says it was 30.5 kph, going uphill. Slow as things go thankfully

    Hi,

Just looking to get some opinions on our proposed Ladies and Master's Two day for 2016. We had planned on running it on the second weekend of April again, but this has now been objected to by another club in Munster as it impacted on their race this year.

One option is to move it to Easter and run it over three days starting on Good Friday with an afternoon stage. (Subject to no objections)

My concern is that most Master's will have families and will be less inclined to give up three days of family time. Some of the ladies may face a similar issue.

The race would start Friday afternoon, see two stages on Saturday with an early finish to the final stage on Sunday.

    Grateful for your thoughts.

Please feel free to share with other Master's and Ladies.

    Thanks,

    Liam.

I would think that by running it over Easter you may lose a few.

You could also lose a few by turning it from 2 day to 3 day.

I would stick with a date that does not clash with other races. You would never have two races so close on the same day. It's respect really. Perhaps tradition. We all love the same sport no need for bitterness or bad language like some of the comments on FB.
Love and admire what you do, Liam,
One day races on Saturdays on a regular basis would be cool for women and masters but I'd imagine man power and funds would knock that on the head.I have the legs to race a 2/3 day but not the time. 😟

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,460 ✭✭✭lennymc

I think (but am not sure) that there is a requirement that there are not two races in the same province on the same day.

I would also stay away from Easter (as it clashes with Ras mumhan, Gorey and Easter family time) and keep it as a 2 day. I hope to get a team together for it for this year.

How about moving it to the other end of the season when there's not a lot on and the weather would probably be better.
A few weeks before Ras na mBan should bump up the women's field.

The dates were set last year and how many Cat3/4 Masters and Ladies are going to ride Fermoy anyway - only a handful?
It should all boil down to what the riders want, and from Facebook it's clear that there is overwhelming support for the race to go ahead.
For the Ladies it's a national race - their only stage race apart from Rás na mBan - why should one club be able to stop it.

    Hi,

Thanks for all the feedback, which was very constructive and helpful. We are sticking with our original application and will now wait for Munster Cycling to make a decision on our application.

We are also running a Ladies / M50 race on March 5th. That will be going ahead. Same as last year.

    Thanks.

    From https://www.facebook.com/liam.collins.543/posts/1127873167244408

"We have been given approval by Cycling Munster to run a one day race on Saturday April 9th. We will run a Ladies only race over 80k, a separate Men's 40 - 49 race over 100k, and a men's 50 plus race over 60k which will include a separate prize list for the 60 plus age group. While it may lack the diversity that a two day stage race provides, we will endeavour to put on a top class event where ladies and masters take centre stage for the day."
