A friend mentioned to me today that the team go for a bit of a warm up in Stephens green a few hours before a home game. Does anyone know if this will happen on Saturday, and about what time?

    Cheers

First I've heard of it. Sounds dubious tbh!

I have seen them practice line outs in St Stephen's Green on the morning of a match.

    100% true

Was shown on tv show for the shelbourne hotel on RTE.

More than likely between 10-12 am if it happens again

I remember the other year, I think it was for a Sunday game, and they were in Stephens Green (just across from the Shelbourne Hotel).

No it's absolutely true, I've seen it a couple of times. Probably around 1 pm.

Yeah, my brother has seen them there too. He said it looked more like a few of the squad going over on their own bat, to throw a ball around to keep loose and kill time, than an organized official training session.

The subs have also been known to have impromptu public training sessions for kids on the green. I used to work around there and see them out from time to time just messing about, no press or sponsors or anything.

They've always done a bit of a run out before internationals, when in Croke Park I think they used Mountjoy Sq park. The bus would pull up there boys go for quick run, lineout drill and a few more quick drills.

Don't know if Joe continued with the practice

Ha it does sound ridiculous but they do it alright.....there was a clip of it in that Shelbourne documentary.

Traffic is stopped, entire squad crosses the road and they spend 20 or 30 minutes throwing the ball around messing in the park.....nothing proper like line-outs or that....just to get the lads out in the fresh air and help with nerves a bit!! Just one of those traditions!!

Nothing new or untrue about it. They've done it a number of times and wandered over on the morning of a game just to stretch the legs, throw a few line outs etc. Nothing intense, just a quick walk through of things.

Never knew that. That's quite cool. I like the idea, probably helps to get a bit of the 'local town support' feel too as I'm sure plenty of people give a bit of encouragement.

How bitter am I that my overiding thought watching that video is....why can't they just use the traffic lights to cross that are RIGHT THERE?

They are pedestrian lights, not appropriate for a convoy of tanks crossing.

Did the team do a run out at St Stephen's Green in the end of it all?
