Battery in the Polo is dead. Cousin dropped up his charger so I'll stick it on tomorrow morning. My Dad said unscrew all the caps off of the battery while it's charging as the acid may boil:confused: Is this just some fairy story or is there any merit to it?

Charge it in well ventilated place as gasses will be given off as it charges.

Ensure the fluid level is correct for each cell top up if needed with distilled water.

Most chargers are automatic chargers they charge at high level and reduce the charging current over time and when fully charge will stop.

Even older basic chargers will do the same but you will have to disconnect after a period of time or it will over charge the battery.

Your going to ask how long to charge for.
It will depend on your charger and how flat the battery.

Nearly every charger I have seen will have some sort of display it will usually show amps or high med low charge rate.

Charge over night should do it with most basic chargers.

If your battery is old and needs charging frequently it is probably worn our and needs replacement.
