Taxing and NCT on classics

I see the classic road tax is €56 but there seems to be some confusion about the official age which used to be 25yrs but now seems to be 30yrs.

Also when a classic vehicle is off the road what is the procedure for retaxing it.

Does a 1990 vehicle have to NCTd or will a engineers report suffice.

Just like some of those points confirmed by experts here.

Just got a insurance quote for €249 for 1990 2litre petrol with second insurance on day car accepted.
    Tnx

No confusion. It's 30 years, and always has been.

Discounted insurance is dependent on age/marque/model etc. and can be as early as 15 years.

A 1990 car gets full tax rate, and annual NCT.

see the charter at the top of the page...all the info you need is in there.

If your car is declared off the road (SORD) and you wish to put it back on the road, you just tax it from the first of the current month.

What if your car is not declared off the road?

Looks like I will have to wait another 10 years to be a true classic.

Thanks for clarifying previous points as was not sure if still valid as had heard things were changing to keep us inline with other E.U. countries as the boffins in Brussels were suggesting a longer or shorter time for some classics.

If not declared off the road you are liable for back tax. Latest you can declare off the road is in the last month of current tax.

    - How long is it in your name?
If it's in your name since the new 'off-road' system was introduced then, afaik, you will have to pay the back tax whenever you go to tax it again. The only 'way out' of this is if there is a change of ownership - then the 'new' owner can declare it off-road, or tax it from then onwards.

If you are not sure when it was last taxed, click on this link and enter the reg ...sometimes it shows the tax disc expiry date -
