Audio set up for downstairs of house

As the title suggests, can I get a recommendation for a decent system, and a quote if possible for a set up as follows:

    AV receiver (I presume) with
    Living room 2 - 4 ceiling speakers
    Kitchen 2 - 4 ceiling speakers
    Another 2 ceiling speakers

Sorry I'm a novice here terminology wise - what I'm looking to do basically is get a decent quality audio setup from the TV and also for audio from other devices (phone, laptop, etc) wirelessly all over the house.

I want to be able to toggle which rooms speakers are on and off at any given time too.

No need for CD or DVD.

How would I go about this? I'm looking through the clearance thread as I'm on a budget but as I'm not up to speed on what everything listed there actually does I thought I'd better explain my needs and then go looking..

    cheers

Can anyone else help me out here?

Looks like there are mini-systems out there with apps that might do it

    HI Nm.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

There is no easy way to achieve the requirement that you are after.

The difficult part would be getting an amp that could run 10 speakers.

Most AV receivers only go up to 9.2 and these are the top of the range starting in and around £1000 upwards.
There would be no wireless speaker option from ourselves with Home cinema all speakers would need wired back to the amp.

You could get a 7.2 amp that will cover the Living room and kitchen something like the Sony 1050 priced at 579.99 Euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-200552-strdn1050.aspx

This has lots of features that will cover streaming etc...
However for home cinema in the living room you would need 5 speakers (2 front, 2 rear and 1 center. )You can also add a subwoofer which is the .1 of the setup.

Still leaves that other 2 speakers though. What room are they in?

There are other options to use which incorporates Sonos in with it giving even more flexability.
If you don't mind me asking what would you budget be and I can see if the Sonos would be an option.
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/cssearch.aspx?searchterm=sonos

    Or also using Denon Heos:
    http://www.denon.co.uk/uk/wireless-multi-room-music-system

For the actual in ceiling speakers the most popular would be the Monitor Audio CT165 priced at 124.99 Euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-11974-ct165.aspx
I could work a price if taking a few of these.
Also what would your clearance in your ceiling be to make sure the CT165 would fit as they are pretty deep.

Kenny thanks for the reply and the links.

Sorry for my bad explanation - I don't mind the speakers being wired to the main unit, I just want wireless connectivity from the devices with the audio on them (ie: phone, laptop) so that I don't need to walk back into the kitchen constantly to fiddle with my phone at the speaker (which is what happens currently).

    The Denon Heos looks excellent.

In answer to your questions - there is a room between the kitchen and living room, sort of dead space from an extension - if its going to cause complications for the amp I suppose I'll cut those speakers out.

So now leaving 8 speakers and some sort of wireless solution to get music to them from any wifi devices storing the audio.

I was hoping for the region of 300 - 700 euro for the whole set  up - am I dreaming?

    Hi nm.

Lets see what I can come up with.

You could use a home cinema AV receiver to run 4 in the Living room for home cinema/stereo. You would need to add a 5 as a center speaker around the TV, below it if possible for the best sound. The center speaker does all your vocals and is very important in a 5.1 home cinema set up.

You could then run two in the kitchen as stereo using the extra 2 speaker outputs on a 7.1 receiver. Like the Pioneer VSX924 priced at £289.00 / 379.99 Euro (also operates via Bluetooth and has DLNA for streaming to).
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/cssearch.aspx?searchterm=vsx924
This is the starting point for a 7.2 amp.

This still leaves the other two speakers in the Kitchen.
To go up to 9.2 would not come in under the 700 Euro mark and that would be excluding speakers.
For a 9.2 receiver you would be looking at 1599.99 Euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-200783-sclx58.aspx

Is there a real need for the ceiling speaker in the Kitchen?
You could stick to 5.1 for the living room and place Heos or Sonos in the kitchen. Both these run off an app and cant be controlled from your phone.

This would mean you would not be in and out of the living room to change your tunes.

You could then at a later date add more Sonos or Heos to the extra room and control both from the one phone.

    For example:

Onkyo 535 at  Euro 349.99 Euro
    CT165 speakers at 124.99 Each = 499.96 Euro, I can do for 445 Euro
Mr Center priced at 124.99 Euro
Sonos play 1 priced at 198.99 Euro
    Total = 1118.97 Euro.

You could drop to the onkyo TXNR333 priced at 269.99 Euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-201029-txsr333.aspx

Total would come in at 1038.97 Euro.

I hope this is of help.

Have a look over the items and let me know what you think.

    Any questions please ask.

I guess I could live with 2 speakers in the kitchen and the 5.1 in the living room.

The Sonos Play 1 - this alone is mono is it, so I'd be better with two? Can that connect to have the same audio as the living room, or would it be on a different system?

I've been reading more about the Sonos, they look the business. If I left out the home cinema 5.1 for the minute, would two Play 1s in the kitchen and a play 3 or 5 in the living be a decent set up? Or would adding a the sub, or playbar, be a better option?
I like the way with those, I can buy them piece by piece, easier on the wallet.

    Hi.

You could indeed use just Sonos and add to it as time went on.

You can pair two 1's together to make a stereo pair with no issues. I use a Play one in my Living/Kitchen and for a mono speaker sounds great.

With the 3 and 5 you get even more sound. The base is more punchy and the clarity from the vocals more clearer.
Play 3 priced at 298.99 Euro (Inc Delivery)
Play 5 priced at 398.99 Euro (Inc Delivery)

It does also mean that you could go for the Playbar and subwoofer and pair it with the 2 1's to give a 5.1 home cinema setup. We run this setup as a demo system in our store and it really does sound the part :D

In order to use Sonos with a home cinema receiver you would require a connect which you go to the receiver coming in at 329.99 Euro

Hope this helps a little further
