    Hi all. Quick question.

I was looking at getting front tyres for a mf 165, similar to what is on the 188/ 390 . I have worked out these tyres to be '10-16s'. Would i need a large rim, or would the tyre go on to the existing rim, that have slimmer tyres on them at present. I have attached a pic to show the differences, hopefully you can see it. thanks

    Wider tyre( 10-16)

This is illustrating the other tyres im talking about.

    400

EDIT: Will the wider tyres fit on the existing rims, or is there a difference between rims also. Thanks :)

the 900 and 1000 16 is a wider rim, and a different tube also.

as you probably know, the 600/650/700 and 750 width tyre can go on the same rim, the 900 and 1000 are wider tyres, and need a wider rim.

Thanks for clearing that up. The tractor has oversized tyres on the back, and i think it would be as well to have wider ones at the front. Also planning on putting a loader on it, so i figure the wider balloon tyres would be more suited. maybe im wrong?

it would be easier on the power steering alright, as for loader work, the bigger tyres would help

Would wider tyres not be harder to steer given there would be more rubber in contact with the ground?

I would have thought the narrow ones would dig in to the soil?

They would indeed.. but how much land work are you planning ??
In fairness we're on "soft" Cavan land and with the 996 we'd only venture onto land with the loader in real dry weather... Otherwise its seriously easy to rut fields..
