Canondale Quick 6 Vs Merida Speeder 100

I'm buying a bike and have narrowed it down to two:

    Canondale Quick 6 (cannondale.com/nam_en/2015/bikes/fitness-urban/fitness/quick-sl-quick/quick-6)

    Merida Speeder 100 (merida.com/en_int/bikes/road-fitness/fitness/2015/speeder-100-2209.html).

As a cycling newbie, I'm looking for some info on which would be the better bike. It will primarily be used for commuting to and from work, but I may also use it for leisure cycling at the weekend.

    Any thoughts??

    ...leisure cycling at the weekend...

This is a recipe for buyers remorse...it won't take long before you want a road bike (i.e. with drop handle bars). Posting a budget/usage/distance will help get better responses than links to bikes.

Maybe... not sure if the weekend cycling will happen but i'm open to considering a road bike as well. Budget is €600, distance to work is about 5km. Would you recommend any bikes in this budget range?

Got a merida speeder myself a few years ago and cannot fault it,have over 5000km done with it between cycling to work and doing sportives. But as kuro_man said you will get the urge to get a road bike as i did.So take your time to decide which type suits your needs.

Cheers for the feedback. Leaning towards the Merida all right but will have a look at some road bikes as well I think.

At your budget I'd look at a 2nd hand road bike. Something aluminium with a carbon fork. That's if the weekend cycles are really on the cards.
