Please help. My Fiancé and I have been trying to find a small wedding venue (20ish people) for a Humanist ceremony followed by a meal in Donegal/Leitrim/Sligo/ Mayo/ Roscommon... Sounds simple... Not so! We have rang a number of hotels and they don't do small (less than 100 people) on Saturdays. Country houses charge the earth. Restaurants have no place for Humanist ceremony... Agh!!!! Hotels that have said no for various reasons, including that they don't have our date available, are:
    - Belleek Castle
    - Lough Eske
    - the Twelve hotel (Galway)
    - Harvey's Point have a one wedding a day policy and I feel we'd be ruining their chance of further revenue that day... But they're still a possibility
    - please don't say Temple House... I know it's lovely but way too expensive for our numbers...

Your list includes venues that are known to be expensive anyways.
Do you want exclusive use of a venue?

Try the Bay View in Killeybegs, they went above and beyond for my sister and venue is great, there hall is quite big but i'm sure they could tailor something for you

Hi Addle, no exclusive use not required but would love a place with decent food for such small numbers!

The Talbot hotel in Belmullet has a lovely restaurant where they do civil ceremonies. Then head to the bar while they change it back into a restaurant for your meal. They have loads of photos on their Facebook page.

Have you looked at the Georgina Campbell website? There seems to be a fairly extensive database of smaller country houses, hotels etc. I know I looked at it before, and there were lots of small places that are quite close to where I'm from, but I'd never heard of. Maybe you'll come across something there

No hassle. The food is to die for too. I Don't work there or anything just really like the hotel!

    I second the Talbot.

I have been to receptions where guests just ate at the bar in the hotel where the ceremony took place?
Would you be interested in that?

Is there some sort of nice town hall or museum or library you could use fir the ceremony and then have the reception in a nice restaurant after? I dont know that part of the country well. Somewhere like a room in lissadell house.

Wrong county (Connemara) but these definitely do small weddings and wouldnt be prohibitively expensive I reckon. View out front is pretty amazing.

Not relevant for this poster, but the Irish National Heritage Park in Wexford is lovely for humanist ceremonies.

from the above site http://www.enniscoe.com/special-occasions.html or these guys say they cater for up to 25 people for small weddings http://turincastle.com/ , could be ideal.

Have you tried Cromleach Lodge? My brother got married there a few years ago with about 20 guests (not a Humanist wedding, but they are available at Cromleach) and the food, service and views were fab. I have a feeling it could be on the expensive side but worth a look.

Thanks dee_mc we will give Cromleach lodge a call! Thanks for your suggestion!!!

Think outside the box also. I got married (Humanist ceremony) in a theatre. We moved on to a sports hall for the party because we wanted to keep 120 people partying till the wee hours. But the theatre could have accommodated a sit-down meal (for smaller numbers than ours) and dancing on-site until 11pm. Rental was pretty cheap. They had never had a wedding before.
