I want to get a new TV that has a Freeview tuner built in. I know all TV's in Ireland have Saorview built in. (In case people are confused Saorview is the Irish channels that come in through an aeriel and Freeview are the english channels that you can get from a satellite dish)

I previously had Freeview this way:
Satellite dish - connected to - Freeview box - connected to - TV

My Freeview box broke and the TV is old so want to get it all in one. Is it as simple as connecting the satellite dish cable to the back of the new TV and tuning it in?

    Thanks!

    Wrong!

FreeView is the UK terrestrial system, similar to Saorview, using an aerial. It can only be received near the border or parts of the East coast. There are also differences in the channel line ups of the two systems.

FreeSat as the name implies uses a satellite dish and box. Freesat is essentially software that gives a 7 day EPG, automatic tuning and Red button functions on Free to Air (FTA) satellite signals. A basic FTA box will only have now/next EPG and manual tuning.

Unlike terrestrial, satellite will give you the UK channels throughout the country.

Now you know the various terms.
All Saorview TVs will receive Freeview (if within range of a UK transmitter).
There are TVs available with built in satellite tuners.
