As a new driver keeping it around 1 litre is best for insurance, at your age insuring any car on your own you will likely be looking at €2k plus. Best advice is to get insured on a parents car until you pass your test and then buy a car.

A lupo is a 1.0 car that isn't deeply uncool.

That was my plan, use my mams car for provisional then buy. What about the aviva thing I heard about something you take their test and get a discount?

That is what I done for my first year, named on my mam's policy with FBD. Then they counted that year of named driving as a 1 year NCB so I got a 20% discount. I think it is Aviva that have the ignition test alright and they give you a discount for passing it, might depend on how well you do.
