Just a point from the last thread, can't be arsed quoting! Puri is a winger.

Wearen Cawley Russell is likely to be our midfield.

Not copying pats either. We were playing three in the middle under Cook when Pats were playing 442 hoofy ****e under Mahon..

Surely Cabinteely FC V Wexford Youths is the game from the opening weekend that has everyone on the edge of their seats :)

Think it would've been a good idea having Cabinteely's opening match at home to Shels. You'd probably have a decent travelling Shels support of a few hundred given it's close and the usual new season buzz, so Stradbrook would look fairly full. Then again, Fingal did break the thousand mark for their first home match, so maybe Cabinteely will get a good attendance for the first game and then another when they do play Shels a couple of weeks later.

Tomorrow evening marks the first game back to Oriel Park since that magical night last October. Playing against UCD in the Leinster Senior Cup. The new season is almost hear. Happy days. We play Drogs (Malone Cup) and Pats (Presidents Cup) as well in Oriel this month.

I believe he's doing a Masters degree this year so prob dosn't want any outside distractions until thats out of the way.

Evan McMillan back there as well which is some signing for them. I'm say Sami Belhout will get a few goals at that level. They have a decent enough squad in fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

UCD were 16-1 to win the league a few days ago( didnt see it myself).

Great bet if you got it.

We'll know later.:) We're playing them in the Leinster Cup tonight and then for some strange reason we are playing them again in a friendly on Friday!

Absolutely over the moon that Benson is staying. If he finishes his Masters in the summer, he'll probably be snapped up, but he should tear the first division apart until then.

We've gotten Mick Leahy back from Limerick too so I'm actually quietly confident for this season. We probably have a much better defence on paper than last season.

May be a tad harsh judging them by how they get on against the Champions of Ireland, in fairness

Hope he gets his chance to show how good he is, you's only have him for the summer (possibly half the season) before he heads off to England or Scotland.

Apparently Sky will be broadcasting live EPL games on Friday nights from 2016. Might force a rethink on match times over here.

It won't be long before there's a continuous stream of EPL/Championship/SPL/Europe League/Champions League matches on various channels throughout the week, so I think it makes little sense for LOI clubs to be worrying too much about clashes. I still think Saturday afternoon/early evening makes the most sense, on balance.

For LOI? I don't agree with that to be honest. Friday night is perfect. I know some clubs prefer Saturday nights and this year Bray will be kicking off at 5:45pm, but LOI would get even more lost in the hustle and bustle of Saturdays between overseas football and people's own games and activities.

Police will want UCD-Cabinteely to be switched to an early kick off.

Also, should it not be Monday 9th March?

Think clubs should stick to their strengths. If Friday night football suits them then stay playing games on those nights.

I don't know how often they plan to show Friday night games but the games on tv won't be anything special in weeks of European football with rubbish teams only available to play each other those weeks.

If you're of the mind that you won't go to a game coz there's something on TV you'll never leave the house. Always something on the box. The move to constantly fill our living rooms with live soccer has seriously diminished the quality of games on tv.

As some of you may be aware, some of us are trying to get the buzz going ahead of the new season using the hashtag #GreatestLeagueinTheWorld, a facebook page here and finally a jersey day when LOI fans all wear their shirts, possibly a little after the start of the season in an attempt to keep the momentum going. There are already some good posts on this, and the #IrishLeagueBehaviour tag previously proved that supporter based posts can trend worldwide and get a lot of positive attention. There's nothing to lose in any of this- so it's a chance for fans of LOI clubs be positive and share what's good about the league, about their club and the experience of following football in Ireland.

So spread the word to your own club forums, via twitter and in conversations with your buddies and let's see if we can build a head of steam in the run up to the new campaign.

Should have been in Tolka tonight for the Trust meeting! :D

I'll narrow an hour and a half meeting down. The FAI/DCC want us to ground-share in Dalymount. DCC will give Bohs €3mil, which they will then give to Zurich (how will the general public like that when they hear more government money will go to a bank). Which means they'll be debt free technically, but members of Bohs are owed a 6 figure sum supposedly, 700k was floated that needs addressing too as they want it back.

DCC is then reliant that they get Tolka, which means acquiring the lease hold from the developer. Shels debt won't be addressed. As someone mentioned, ground-sharing in Tolka would be miles less hassle as DCC own the freehold of Tolka, so all that needs doing is paying the developer a few quid (probably a portion of €3mil) and Bohs getting the Zurich debt wrote off.

Going by the meeting and what the Board said in the Fans' Forum statement this whole deal has barely been looked at and it's just someone (honest John surely) leaking info to the media on purpose.

Fairly big news (to me anyway) about all Junior clubs being asked by the FAI to approach LoI clubs with a view of partnership due to the whole new Elite setup which is coming into play from next year. Could work very well in our favour!

Don't think the debt write off will be popular at all!
The "Elite setup" sounds very promising. Hopefully it will prevent the premature departure of all the young talent going to England.

Just saw on Facebook a new website called www.leagueofIreland.ie, which will be launching this month. Anyone know anything about it? They have Aaron Callaghan but that's about all I know. It doesn't look like an FAI site.

Do they mean basically positioning the LOI club as the final stage of the development for junior players?

Can you see junior clubs going for that though?
