M50 tolls matter

I contacted one of the tolls companies over 2 weeks ago to set up an account as I was going to be making a daily trip along the m50. I spoke to a customer service rep and set it up and gave my debit card details etc. She informed me that payment would be made from my card on the 12th of every month. I said that's fine..

Then yesterday i noticed i got a number of letters saying that i had unpaid tolls.. I then rang the company and i was informed that there was no account set up. I informed them that i set up an account over two weeks ago. I then went through my phone record and rang them back with the time and date of my call. The lady said she had no record of it. I then asked her what was I to do about the tolls to date. she informed me that I would have to pay them. I explained that they are now racking up penalties as it was over 2 weeks ago. She didn't seem to care.

I then asked her did they not record calls. She said they did and she would get back to me in a week or two....

What should I do about the tolls for the last 2.5 weeks now?

It might be useful to minimise your losses, but read the documents carefully.

Set up an account with a different operator. See if the first one still bills you.

Send a Data Protection request to the first company. In writing. Promptly.

If the company isn't the nra/etoll I'd contact the nra directly (Not Eflow) and have your phone records to hand to complain that they are letting rogue companies run tolling

I'd also complain to the competition and consumer protection commission, that you were misled by the tolling company, and as a result of your conversation on the phone with them, you travelled on the road.

Did you get a toll tag for your windscreen...?

If he set up a video account, he would not get a tag. It works by recognising the registration number.

Not sure what one I set up to be honest. I used to have an account years ago and I didn't have a tag. She just said that the payment would come off my card on the 12th of every month....

Just totted up my charges and they are at 200 euro.... Since they told me I'm back to paying as i go and avoiding m50 where possible... I've just written to NRA and also consumer rights as directed above... Why should I be left with a bill due to someones incompetence?....
