Read a couple of days ago in another thread but cant find it now about joint herd number.
Not sure if i was reading it right but can i get my name added to my fathers herd number? Like a lot of lads have always kept a few cattle but in his name so want to make it a bit more formal.
If it can be done do ye know whats involved.

I am in the same position as chops01. Its getting to the stage that i probably have more stock in the herd than the aul fella . Joint herd number seems to be the way foward as he is commited to aeos for few years yet, and there is no local land to lease to set up new herd number.
What are the tax implications? Would it be seperate accounts or joint? How do i explain my sudden assets, ie cows? Any other advice appreciated

You need to set up a joint bank account where all farm payments will be paid into. Also show evidence that you have atleast applied to do the green cert.

Probably a stupid question but just wondering what happens when someone's father passes away. Does the land automatically go to the other member in the Herd number or is it anyway connected? My Father in law has willed the farm land to my brother in law but is talking about adding my husband on his herd number. I can't find any information on joint herd numbers and the conditions attached. I just want to make sure that things won't get messy down the line. Don't want to fall out with my brother in law and don't want him thinking that we are trying to take his inheritance.

There will be a problem then if it is willed to a different person than the person that is joined in the herd number.

Sugar I thought it would cause trouble alright. Where would be the best place to get professional advice on this matter?

Your teagasc advisor or the department of agriculture.

No connection between the land and herd number.

Land is an assets and needs to be registered with the Land Registry.

Herd number only allows you to keep animals. No connection.

Similar to this perhaps....father and son operating 2 separate herd numbers and each getting SFP, DAS & AEOS but struggling to keep herds separate and therefore running high risk of compliance problems.

I'm just wondering If they were to merge onto 1 herd number and operate as a partnership would they lose out on DAS & AEOS? Reckon compliance risk would definitely reduce

You will have to arrange a meeting with your bank manager and he will fill out the required form for ye, the joint business account. Then when you get details of the account the er1.1 form will have to be filled out.
