Hi all , I am looking for an android box for my father in law , he is a complete technophobe so it would have to be one thats already loaded and ready to just plug and play and preferably one that will auto update , Ive seen some on adverts for around 110-150 , would this be the standard price for one or could i get one cheaper elsewhere ?
    Any advice appreciated
    Thanks

What will it be used for? Does he already have a smartphone? If he does a ChromeCast might be the best option for ease of use? Would be good if he'll just be using it for the likes of Netflix, YouTube etc...

Hi its more for tv series and a bit of live sports and films etc , he still uses a nokia with buttons , we got him a touchscreen phone last year and he couldn't get used to it at all so something with minimal menus , I've showed him showbox on my phone and he can just about navigate that

Don't think the android boxes are for technophobes, especially if you want to be able to watch sport and tv for free. Something will go wrong down the line, an app will need updating, or the site being used to stream gets shut down. The quality of streams in general on those boxes are pretty poor too.

It's just i've known a few technophobe types that have gotten android boxes and they don't seem to know what they're getting and end up disappointed.

MK808b from Gearbest is just brilliant. .. plug into hdmi on tv & go...!!
Costs only around €25 unless customs get you then maybe a tenner more or so, mine only took around 10 days to arrive though some ppl are waiting a lot longer.
most ppl have flashed new firmware onto it but I didn't bother & it runs perfectly for me straight out if the box!!
Netflix & Showbox excellent though I don't really bother with Netflix at all anymore! Runs android Kitkit which is the latest for now until lollipop comes out. it is rooted so can be messed around with if you want but not necessary!
Some ppl do report wifi being weak but move is right beside my modem (only a 3 dongle so nothing major) & works great!
honestly can't say enough good things about it lol also use it as a pc in sitting room for checking emails, googling, Facebook etc!
You will need a wireless or airmouse to use with it, can pick up easily in tesco argos (wireless) or also gearbest for wireless or air (works like remote control)... ebay & amazon etc too
also google discount codes & you can get more off... & free shipping! !
There's a thread dedicated to it over on Bargain Alerts!!
    hope this helps!
