    Hi all

I'm having a total left hip replacement shortly and I'm trying to get prepared for my post recovery, I was looking at chairs online which cost quite a bit, I was looking at trying to buy 2/3 inch firm cushion for one of my kitchen chairs as an alternative, has anybody got any recommendations????

Any furniture store should have a stock of orthopaedic chairs. There are some decent ones on this site http://www.homelinefurniture.ie/relax-chairs-c-75/orthopaedic-fireside-chairs-c-75_1386/hanley-black-fire-side-chair-p-4499
We got one for my mother 2 years ago and I think it cost €150. Good Luck in your search and with your op. Speedy recovery. One bit of advice if you don't mind. Do ALL the exercises they give you after the op, even if they reduce you to tears. They'll be well worth it in the long run. My Mam got 25 and 27 years out of her hip replacements before they started to go again!

You could also look at a medical equipment company like murrays. You'll be able to get chair raisers, to raise up the chair you already have.

I'm not recommending this as I'm not qualified to do so etc... but from experience, I bought a flat-wide office desk chair, I found it great, I could adjust the leg height precisely and because I have wooden floors I could scoot around a bit, this also meant I wasn't constricted to one static room position (if you know what I mean)- how much you spend will depend on you - mine was under a hundred and I'm still using it today at my PC after almost 4 years.
