    Hi All,
I am just looking for people's opinions on this, myself and my husband need to earn some money to buy a house we had the 10% but now with the new rules we fall into the 20% bracket as I am not a FTB ( I own a one bed apt in D24 currently rented out and we rent ) so my question is has anyone ever gone over to Dubai to earn money ?

My cousin and his wife are currently over there at the moment for 2 years working as they bought in the boom and have a huge mortgage on a small house so they are working away earning money so they can pay it off or at least some of it.
My sister in law also lived there for 13 years and her husband is still over there so she too would have contacts.
My plan would be for either both of us to go over and work or just one of us as we have alot of animals here in Ireland that need looking after so can I have people's thought on this please.

Just one of you going over will be hard.

What sort of education, experience and skills do you both have?

Thanks yeah spoke to my husband last night he would prefer both of us go over or neither he said he would not like to be over here in the house on his own so as it wouldnt bother me I suggested he go but he still does not like the idea of that.

We are both educated to third degree and I have over 18 years experience in accounts, management etc.
He has worked for the same company for 13 years in transport, its a difficult one we are trying to find a solution to the new 20% rules so that we can buy but its proving tough.

What specific skills do you have?

For example, my background is IT (programming/QA/management) so I know I could walk into a job in Dubai.

Do you also have one of these in demand skills or is it vague? You say accounts/management but is this in an in demand industry or some weird Irish specific industry?

I need more information about you before I can give real advice.

If you're a Qualified Accountant, Civil Engineer or High Skilled IT Worker then you should have no problem getting a job. We looked in to it before but I wasn't at a level where it would've been profitable enough for us to go. I would start reading some of the expat forums. You'll need to buy a car over there. A lot of companies will sign you up to a contract, some will be more than 1 year with the company taking possession of your passport for the duration of your stay. Some will offer you a bonus (not sure on value) to stay for 2 years. Accommodation, health insurance and a few other benefits tend to be standard for the professions I mentioned above. A regular poster on here, Tom Dunne, works in the region and can probably provide more information.

You'll also more than likely need to go there to have a better chance of securing work. I'd spend a week or two out there on a holiday and see if the culture suits. There are other countries close to it that may also be an option however, in some (can't remember exact country) women are not allowed to drive or something unusual like that.
