Firebird Boiler not starting from timer

I am having a sporadic issue with my firebird boiler sometimes not starting from the timer. However when i press the reset switch on the boiler it starts without a problem. I have plenty of oil.

This can happen a couple of times a week then it will work fine again for a few days.

Any advice? I'm wondering does the boiler need a service?

If it hasn't been serviced in the last 12 months, then you should get it serviced. You will need to mention this fault to the service person, as it might not occur during the service, It is probably a cheap enough fix -part wise. If this problem is only occurring from cold starting i.e. first start in the morning, it may not even need parts, just an adjustment.

Thanks Wearb. Do you have any rough idea it would cost to have a boiler serviced?

If it hasn't been serviced in a while, along with a new nozzle, it will need a new flexible hose. Probably less than €100. It depends on how dirty it is.

It will be worth you while to insist on the service person giving your a combustion analysis printout (ask before you hire). It is difficult to do a bad job and get correct readings on the printout. You should also get a report, stating nozzle size and pump pressure.

Lots of other things too, but those are the bare minimum.

What reset button are you pressing ??

    Hi Billy

The normal red reset button won't start it but the other one beside the thermostat will fire it up. I just spoke to my local boiler guy and he suggests it may be low water pressure (which happened before) so i am going to try to change the setting on that and see if that helps.

Could also have no pump overrun and residue heat tripping hi stat when clock switches off, check stat setting and try turning down.

Heat came on this evening as set on timer. Have turned down the stat in boiler & will see if that resolves the issue. Thanks all for your advice.

My heatpac does it all the time if I nudge the stat too high. It really needs a pipe stat wired into the pump, need to get a permanent live out to the boiler first though...
