Hi, The other day I came home and found gardai searching my house claiming they had been told by a "reliable source" that I had been sellin drugs from my home. Obviously they found nothing as I am no drug dealer whatsoever. But when I asked who accused me I was told that it was just a " reliable source".
Do I have the right to know who made this accusation as I live right next door to my landlord and she's not too impressed by the situation. So I really need to clear it all up for good as if don't want to be made homeless over some dope talkin crap.

No, you have absolutely no right to know.

Doesn't really seem fair that someone can just lie like that about you and you have no rights to find out who.

What would you do with said information?

I like to know why they said this and try clear it all up. It's made life really crap for me the last couple of days.

Go to the Gardai and make a complaint. Gardai won't give you information like that.

    Did they have a warrant?

You can get a solicitor and challenge the warrant. You might be able to get a look at the information sworn before the judge to get the warrant. But it would be costly and there would be no guarantee the person would be named on it. It's ery unlikely there will be anything identifiable on it.

Judges seem to be handing out warrants like lollipops.

It's because they're really soft on crime and need the drug dealers in court so they can let them off with a slap on the wrists.

As other posters have already pointed out OP, you have no entitlement to find out the name of the person who albeit mistakenly, unfortunately, maliciously or otherwise made a complaint against you.

I had a similar situation happen to myself a number of years back now when I had a visit from the local Gardaí. I co-operated fully and it transpired that while they had the right name, they had the wrong address. I just happened to share the same name as a person who was well known in the town for their illicit enterprise!

I never actually thought to try and find out who made the complaint as I had just dismissed it as a simple clerical error rather than anything malicious.
