Pay to use Launch Monitors

Just reading on the Golf section of Reddit where the bigger stores in the US have bays with Launch monitors on them in store. You can swing away from 20 minutes and after that its 20$ for 45minutes.

I know from personal experience that indoor is not optimal. I tend to swing slower on an indoor monitor ( unless its a big bay) than on one outside and I doubt the carry numbers. Spin, launch,AOA,dynamic loft, ball speed etc are numbers I'd believe ( using the newer LM's)

I'm not advocating self lessons using the LM, although I'm sure some will/try at least, but purely from an information/fun/revenue point of view. For the golfers who, like me, love seeing the technical data behind their swing. For the golfer who just wants to see how fast they can swing or play a virtual round in Augusta and for the added revenue for the company.

Why isn't there anything like this in Ireland? Even €20 for 30 minutes using your own clubs and a print out after.

I know cost could be a problem but with surely McGuirks/Halpenny could do it considering the LM's are usually sitting idle making no money most of the open hours.

I know some places will do the same but it requires a booking and I think they lose out on spur of the moment walk in revenue.

I know I'm not playing long at all but all things seem to point towards LM's being bigger in the future with talk of affordable home units you would think they're missing out on a huge market.

Or am I just thinking about golf too much lately like some suggest :D

I agree with you completely. The asset is sitting there idly a lot of the time and there are enough guys like you (and me :D ) who would pay to use one.

    It's close :)

It seems you have to book and its only in one location which would stop alot of drop in golfers.

Most Halpenny/McGuirk stores are in retail parks, I don't think I could think of a better thing to do while the missus is shopping for an hour or 30 minutes. It seems to be marketed more at the american type of casual golfer with the packages with "8 long neck beers + nachos & dips" which is fair enough I suppose but I'd rather they had the newest equipment rather than the beers

Went to London to visit family. I asked go try a sldr and a R1, they gave me 50 balls for the range.
I went to a pro tracer bay typed the link in my phone browser and hey presto. Basic enough distance and direction but it was free.

I think Celbridge might do something like this. Give them a call.

They have a trackman, you can get a fitting or do a combine test. Its not bad but the mats and the bay itself are a bit small once you put the trackman close (16k!) I got a bit worried I'd see a trackman traveling through the air :pac:

I'll tell you what Dan we'll do a deal...whichever one of us wins the lotto first buys the other man a Trackman when he buys one for himself :D

Also a bit of this http://www.golf.com/photos/dave-pelzs-golfers-paradise

Theres also a place similar to Metrogolf called Spin Golfvision on the Long Mile Road which offers their bays as a driving range:

might be an option for you, though not set in a shoppping centre unfortunately

Brian Kerley @ Greenlife Driving Range Dundalk let folks use his - think its €20 for 100 balls & (maybe) an hour on the trackman...not 100% on the figures but think I'm right:confused:

    great for yardages etc...

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but any options around Dublin for this? I see the GUI Academy have something around the €80 mark for a session, anyone else offering something.

    Nice christmas pressie

Simulated Sports in Belgard, Tallaght have a great setup. I think you can hire it out.

That's stupid money to charge for hitting a few balls.

I'm pretty sure this is a coaching Session with Trackman.

Ya reckon? Hour lesson 80 bucks, A qualified teaching pro using the latest tech to improve your game with tangible numbers you can work with?

Think about it. That €80 doesn't go straight into his pocket. He has to pay for all his expenses like rent, car, equipment, utility bills etc. There's also the fact that he mightn't have a booking for every hour of the day where he makes nothing. So €80 is very reasonable.

I can get the same 1 hour lesson with trackman and club numbers emailed to me for £36.

    €80 is expensive.

Yes but how much extra does it cost to travel to the UK??

I’m sure the pro in Balcarrick has a track man and does this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,175 ✭✭✭kieran.

€30 for a trackman lesson with Brian Kerley in Ardee GC

Different country and different living expenses etc.

I would hedge my bets that neither the £36 lesson or the €30 one are going to be for an hour. 40 mins tops

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,175 ✭✭✭kieran.

    €30 is usually 45mins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 981 ✭✭✭mighty magpie

BigChap, i've my GUI card. I think you know what the I stands for.

1 hour from the border and the lesson is 1 hour with trackman.

FX rate considered, €40 difference isn't explained by the difference in cost of living.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,492 ✭✭✭neckedit

just looked at the Website for
BetterGolf. and it is 80 buck for and hour of the Trackman use!! no lesson. that is a little dear... so am assuming that they price this up to discourage people from doing it and encourage the combined trackman/Pro lesson.

Out of curiosity, realistically what would you spend on an hour's use of a track man in an indoor setting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,978 ✭✭✭RoadRunner

It looks like they have a deal on 5 x 1hr private trackman sessions for €150. Limited numbers though http://www.bettergolf.ie/

Total Golf in Derry charge 5pound for an hour on their flightscope and it is the best 5pound ever spent. They give you a 5 minute demo if you haven't used one before, then just start swinging.

My local pro has an ES14, it's grand, but no where near the flightscope/trackman levels, but it does sync up to you mobile so you have all your data from every session with it on your phone.
