Cycle routes in Dublin for this weather

Looking at the forecast I am facing into another weekend of inactivity, unless I can come up with a route which is less susceptible to the frost. Normally head out through Enniskerry and up over Roundwood but found the roads in the shade to be quite slippery.

    Has anyone any suggestions?

Coast road up towards Malahide - take in the Hill of Howth for an extra bit of work.

This is what I have done - getting a little bored with that route and am nervous descending the hill if there is frost/ice. Maybe I am being over cautious?

I've found both the Sutton side and the harbour side to be fine and free from ice the last few weeks. If you want to avoid Howth you could continue on through Portmarnock into Malahide, the roads are good and they're in sunshine most of the day.. But the Malahide road is quite sheltered from the village until Kinsealy but you can avoid that by taking the estuary road out onto the Swords road and still have some nice scenary.

I was out the r132 to Drogheda on Sunday. You could go as far as Balbriggan ad back by Skerries ( and Rush) to Lusk and back.

Or Sutton Baldoyle, Portmarnock, Malahide, Swords, Dublin for a shorter trip.

I've been out swords, blakes cross, lusk, skerries, ardgillan and back the last few weeks and been pretty good. Two weeks ago was a little slushy but last week was great.

Which would you prefer - inactivity or being active but bored?

In this type of weather even club runs tend to stick to 'main roads' for safety but, while they can be a little boring at times, it beats not getting out at all.

Roads near the coast from Rush to Skerries and Balbriggan and drogheda are fine. When you decide to head inland is when the problems start with black ice and sheltered spots. As far as I am aware it to get a little milder at the weekend so that's promising;)
