Gas meter issue

Just bought our first house and had it fully renovated. In the process the gas meter was removed and put in a box as we replumbed and the meter needed to be moved outside. It is a relatively new Landis & Gyr meter with a digital readout. Initial reading was approx 2m3, removed as house was being replumbed. Reinstalled (either by Gas Networks or our RGI not sure) a few weeks later all working fine but when I went to get a reading it had jumped forward to 71 m3. We have definitely not used this much gas, does anyone have any experience of this or recommend any course of action to take? called our supplier Electric Ireland but they were useless, didn't have a clue.

    thanks

Ring gas networks. Safety and quality, 1850200694 .
They supply and fit the meter. Hopefully just a fault in the meter and not a leak somewhere. Id turn the gas off until they call out just to be safe

It doesn't sound like a huge amount of gas to be honest - 69m3 is approx 787kWh or about €47, which over three weeks does not seem unusual. Are you using it for central heating or cooking only?
