Hi all so myself and herself have been told the apartment is due to be sold.
Anyways ive found a place and want to hire a van.
    Some things to note:
Yes my insurance agreed to transfer (at a fee)
    I am 24
    Clean licence
    I don't have a credit card.

The credit card seems to be an issue I only have a visa debit. Is there a company that accepts this?

I would consider a man with van but I only have Wednesday and Thursday off and guarantee a time to get the job done.

Perhaps some boardsie would hire me their van for an few hours for a few bon or recommend a company who can give me a van? I was getting quotes online no problem till it asked for a credit card

Problem is hire companies want credit cards as they can pre-authorise the card

Hmm I think I may have got a van from enterprise at one stage when the credit card was in tatters. I did have to take out extra insurance iirc.

Not 100÷ sure there but they are very good to deal with at least in limerick they are. Definitely worth a call at least. Tbh it's the transfer from private to commercial that usually causes trouble for me- certain insurers just won't allow it.

My brother hired a car from enterprise at Christmas but there was no way he could get it without a credit card, he offered to give a deposit of 5k or whatever they wanted but there wasn't a hope.

Ah yeah but again ive no exact time so need a van for a day basically. They're not likely to accept a visa debit are they? Some don't mention anything about credit cards
Ive pre auth hotels on my visa debit?

Dropped them a mail thanks. I presume by their terms you only need be over 25 if taking their insurance. Mine is happy to cover me.

Just give the rental company your debit card details. I doubt they'll complain.

I had a hire car off enterprise in limerick first two weeks of January, and had no problems with visa debit card

Good to hear someone else did this, wasn't sure if I was misread me ring. I'm a little fuzzy on the detail of my van rental but I thought they had an alternative to the credit card, either an extra deposit or enhanced insurance or something.

Had a nasty experience with Hertz a few weeks back. Hired a van for a day, to pick up some flatpack in Ikea and drop to Citywest, less than 60 km round trip. No problem with Visa Debit BTW. Drove very slowly and parked a mile away from anyone so when I brought it back and they tried pinning some damages on me I wasn't entertaining it. Finally they settled on two marks on the windscreen and insisted on charging my account with just under €300. I couldn't prove they were already there. I do almost the same route in my car every day and there isn't a single mark on it.

If you're going to rent a vehicle from Hertz advice is to check thoroughly with an employee before you leave. I would never use them again. Most expensive flatpack I ever purchased.

I hired a car off them from an airport. They emailed me a preinspection report which had pictures of the car which showed marks/scratches on the car. Took the car in the dark and checked it the following day and found the front bumper had a good few deep scratches on it on the LHS.
I checked the pictures of the preinspection report and they were in the pictures but not marked. Told them when i dropped the car back.

My advice is get the full insurance where you pay nothing if anything happens to the car

Thanks 9935452, I did opt for the full insurance, cost me an extra €20 but the first €300 wasn't covered. Surprise surprise.
