    Hi folks,

As the title says, I have been in full time employment for the past three years. I am currently 27 years old, and have once registered and dropped out of a Level 8 course... But that was 7 years ago.

As specified on the SUSI website, they deem you eligible or ineligible for a grant by assessing your previous years income, which for me was in excess of 26k last year as I was in full time employment.

So am I correct in saying so that although I am leaving my full time job to return to college and will be struggling for finances all year whilst i am studying, I will still not be eligible for a grant because of my last years earnings??

If so... this is absolutely insane..surely cannot be the case??

Absolutely is the case, they go on the previous year. I guess they assume you would have saved some money before dropping out to study. Similar thing happened to me, I'm unemployed and in college and didn't get a grant because my income last year was too high. Just the way it goes. I guess it's one of the reasons that part time degrees exist (for people who need to work full time).

Most people do work part time in college though to fund themselves (I know a lot of people who work full time and somehow manage. Welcome to real student life :D, enjoy your time here :P).

After studying the SUSI website, I think I may be safe though. I have been living independently from my parents for the past three years so I can class myself as an independent applicant, provided I can convince my landlord to give me rent receipts and documentation as proof.

According to the website, as an independent applicant with no children and no live in spouse / wife I am eligible for a full maintenance grant provided I have earned under 39.875 euros last year....which I did!!

This seems to be correct so but i am still having trouble believing it myself as it seems a little to good to be true.

No need for that. Electric Bills are sufficient proof of independent living

Em.. All my bills are inclusive of my rent since I moved in. I just pay one flat fee per month. Is a bank statement demonstrating payments usually accepted by SUSI?

Not as proof of independent living. If you have no bills you'll need a copy of a lease, or tenancy agreement.
