    Good morning guys-

    Please find attached some numeracy examples from one of the companies to whom the numeracy and verbal reasoning exams have been outsourced by AIB and the Public Appointment Service.

    These are not the examples on the Public Appointment Service website- nor are they the actual exams- but they will give you a very good feel for what is expected.

    I'll have a check and see if I can find any more (and if I can get them in a more user-friendly format than jpegs.......

    Good luck to anyone yet to do their tests.

    This is a really excellent idea, fair play to you putting this up to help others.

    Any chance someone could explain the first question in JPEG number 5 to me please (more because it's annoying me than anything else!). I thought I understood:

    Work out the total market share for year seven (total for year 6 + 15%, which is 429 + 15%) = 493.55 million
    Work out what market share Easymode had in year two (total market share for year two was 204 +68, which is 272. 204 as a percentage of 272 = 75%
    Work out 75% of year seven's total = your answer, I would have thought?! But that's 370 million odd, which is not even close to any of the answers.

    Help! As you can see, maths is my weak spot...

    Total market in year 7 is (339 + 90) * 1.15 = 493.35m
    Total market in year 2 is (68+204) = 272
    Easymode market share (%) in year 2 = ((68/272))*100 = 25%
    ((Total market in year 7) *.25) = Easymode share in year 7 = 123.3375m
    Answer E = 123.3m

    You went wrong when you confused the share of other competitors, with that of Easymode, in year 2- and thought Easymode's share was 75%, when in actual fact it was 25%.

    You just have to be careful- its very easy to slip up- and when you're doing these, time is your enemy more than anything else.

    Thank you! That is definitely where I fall down - rather than being too slow, I panic and do questions too fast. That can lead to missing important details. That's why it's great to get the practice questions - I need to train myself to be more careful more than anything else. Thanks for pointing out my mistake - and for putting up the examples in the first place, appreciate it!

    More than welcome.
    I'll put up another bunch of examples later when I get a chance.

    Some more examples- stylistically the same to the first ones

    Calculators at the ready! :)

    The Conductor, thank you so much for these. They'll really help. You don't have the answers by any chance as well do you, so I can check if I'm correct? No problem if not. TIA!!

    Question 9

    JPY 100,000 = £632.91

    632.91 x 7.6 (the exchange rate for MYR) = 4810 - 5% = 4570

    MYR 4570 = £601.32

    601.32 x 2.55 (the AUD Rate) = 1533.336 - 5% = 1,456.668

    Answer D = AUD 1457 (which the above rounds to).

    Second part- proportional changes in exchange rates between year 1 and 2

    EUR = 7.31%
    US$ = 10.35%
    JAP = 16.84%
    AUD = 6%
    CHF = 8.33%
    HKD = 9.82%
    MYR = 39.45%

    Normally I'd work out the first part- and scan the second one and do it in my head without using a calculator at all...... The AUD sticks out if you scan the figures (I've worked out the percentages for all the currencies above- but just glancing at the currencies in the question its pretty obvious without working them out at all......

    I'll have to run through them and work them out when I get a chance- I don't have a list of what the answers are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 108 ✭✭poster2525

    Oh don't worry.....I'm sure you've enough to be doing apart from checking my answers!!
