Cohabiting to not cohabiting advice?

    My position:

    Cohabiting with partner and baby. He earns just over 4k per month nett. Have the usual outgoings for utilities etc. I am paying for college as i dont qualify for any sort of grant. When I walked into welfare office they took one look at the payslip and said I get nadda all because I am cohabiting! I find it funny that when it comes to revenue we are taxed as individuals but yet when This situation occurs we are bundled together as 1.

    My question is: Am i better off not cohabiting?

    If your taxed as individuals, that means you work... If you work then why would you be looking for financial support??

    I did work before going on maternity leave and that contract ended. I have no earnings at all hence the thread.
