Hi, I am hoping I can get some advice please in relation to a wedding venue decision. Money is not the issue, it's just about getting the over all package. Moyvalley happens to be the cheaper option and I am worried as to why it is much cheaper than the others. It just so happens, that it ticks most of the boxes. Any suggestions would be greatly valued.

Basically we are unsure of what people want (yet its our choice), but we just want everyone to be happy as such, yet get a good crowd with good atmosphere. We are just worried that due to the constraints of the price of accommodation and the lack of accommodation in others that it may sway people in other directions ? either way you will get all of the attendees going, but do they want to stay ?. One of the lads in Moyvalley said that giving that it's NYE, a Saturday with no work for the next two days, that you will get all of the people going that you invite!

The plan would be to rent the Baylna house for the drinks reception, then have the reception over in the hotel (due to high numbers)
then return back to the Baylna house as there's a bar and you can have your own music (ie one of our friends). The bar serves until
at least 4am and then you can stay awake all evening. There are only 50 rooms in the hotel.

    Pros
It's modern yet has the Baylna house which we like and keeps the old yet modern feeling
There are 12 rooms in the house to stay in and they give you 2 junior suites in the hotel too.
All the rooms in the hotel are modern and are €120 per night
There are cottages for people to stay in also which are beside the Baylna house
We can block book out the rooms (for free) we could block book 50 of them thus, booking out the whole hotel
Wired up for sound and probably any audio visual that one may need
The price is much lower than the others, so we can invite the full 150 if we wished

    Cons
It's relatively new on the market as such, so not a huge amount of reputation
We don't know enough about the food
The banquet hall is a little generic in terms of it being inside a hotel
Smoking area is on the same level, but outside of the building and then through a bar onto a terrace
There are a number of pillars inside the venue which may prevent some from seeing the top table (does it matter) ?
It's slightly further away than the other venues, so there would be pretty much no evening attendees

    Pros
It's close so people could come and go when they pleases
All of the reception and banquet hall are together so people could not wander
The setting of the venue is spot on in terms of the layout
The food has an excellent reputation
The banquet hall is exceptional and is unique
    Wired up for sound throughout

    Cons
The bedrooms are not really nice - they are 80's and dated style (that said from going up yesterday, I did like them to a better degree)
The bedrooms are quite expensive to stay in €189 for a double
There will be other people staying in them while we are there
The bar location is slightly off the main ballroom area, but not too far
Smoking area has a roof over it, would this have people outside ?

    Pros
It's Luttlerstown and it would be a once in a life time opportunity. The venue is absolutely stunning
It's close so people could come and go when they please
The house in yours, you can do what you like, music until whenever, no other quests other than the wedding party
No curfew on the bar (not that we are going to be up until 6am ourselves)

    Con's
Not enough accommodation, but would people want to stay ? There are only 12 rooms
Cannot invite everyone as there's a maximum of 120
The venue is not wired up for sound, so we are unsure if it would work well
There are many rooms so we are concerned there maybe wanderers and people won't stay in the main place (could always have the doors locked though)
Not enough reviews, but I don't think the regular clientele would be putting reviews up on Tripadvisor. No idea about food quality, but I gather it would be top notch
Giving that it's not big enough to accommodate everyone, would you get anyone wanting to come up for the afters ?

    Thank you in advance!

Barbarstown has 1.30 am curfew for music and 2.30/3 am for late bar which can be offputting for some and the room shape can work against band or dj on occassion. I havent any experience of the others.

Was at two wedding in Barbarstown and loved both. Like the shape of the room, but then I don't like normal hotel rooms find them boring. Food was great both times.
Cant remember anything about the music ending at 1.30, but know we didnt get to bed till about four or so. Think the bar closes at 3 but you can order as much drink as you want they don't kick you out.
I also haven't experienced the other two.

seconded, barberstown. Lovely venue, and Ive eaten there a couple of times and the food is good but the party? sheesh. People just will not come back in from the bar unless they set up the entertainment facing length ways which if they dont have the numbers for they wont do..

Moyvalley, Id suggest to stick with the house for the party rather than go back to the hotel if you go with it. thats a very long room, I always think the house has a better party.

Luttrelstown is different, theres a few rooms as youve noticed, but theres a great atmosphere and the most important thing is theres bar in the room where the music is on. Classiest of the lot for me and Id be having it if I could afford it.

as for afters, I dont think the choice of venue is going to sway people going to the afters on a NYE wedding although if your guests are dublin based you may get a small few extra but I wouldnt count on it. check the other thread near this one for local accommodation near anglers rest. There's lots.

Thank you for your responses. We would be Lucan based so all of these venues are very close to us anyway.
