I'm looking to subscribe to eurosport player so I can start with the tour of dubai. I was going to run it through my xbox at home and Samsung tab 2 when I'm away. Basically I want to know is it any good/reliable?

Yep, good value and generally works very well. Easy to cancel once the season is over too and start it again at the start of the next one.

The coverage was good but the app smart tv app didn't work right. At one stage it was stuck for a couple of days and was generally a pain. I got rid of it before the season end. Any one know if it is better now? Tv connected to a desktop probably the best idea.
A pity because where else can you watch all the cycling.
Uci channel on youtube is pretty decent but the youtube tv app is also painful to use

I used it for the Tour and the Vuelta last year and had no issues with it (running from the laptop). As was mentioned above it was hassle-free cancelling it afterwards.

I used it on a tablet and not only was it quite glitchy, but I found it far from easy to cancel the sub once the season ended - the account settings page didn't allow for as even though it indicated it should. I was also disappointed that there was no option for watching recorded highlights - as you get with ES on the TV - so that if you didn't get to watch the races live, tough luck.......I think that their 'broadcast' rights are very different on the App than on the TV

In the end, it was the latter that convinced me to cancel.......I might re-look at it as I'm going to need some sort of cycling fix....

I must add, I was on the monthly subscription. Maybe it's more difficult to cancel the yearly one.

I usully sign up every year for the season, use it on iPhone / iPad.
No issues cancelling monthly subscription at the end of the season.

Very handy for keeping an eye on the Tour stages in work so you don't have to get grief for hogging the TV when you get home.

Won't be using it this year thoguh, picked up a Vu+ Solo2 sat receiver which allows me to stream all the channels to anywhere :D

Slightly off topic, but how do you get it on the Vu+ Solo2 receiver?

Sorry, there is no Eurosport Player for the Vu+, but rather the receiver allows you to stream all of the channels you are receiving at home to any device, without any geographical restrictions etc.
There's a bit of DDNS configuring and jiggery pokery involved, but once it's all set up, it works a treat.

Just a note of warning that if you have any plans to output the video from an iOS version of the player Eurosport app changed & blocked that function last year .

Thus if wish to use it on a iPhone or iPad you will not be able to then push the video to a bigger screen via a vga or hdmi cable ...which I used to do all the time with a spare monitor in work during TDF :p

That's odd, I have the Eurosport Player App working fine on a Samsung Smart TV - UE40F5500

I downgraded from UPC TV package that has Eurosport and tons of junk channels to the more basic UPC TV package and signed up for 50e Eurosport player annual package. Saved enough to neutralise the recent UPC increases.

It's grand. But i've grown use to auto recording all televised races to watch/pause/fastforward whenever I feel like it with UPC. God I hate UPC, but there's really no better way to watch Cycling. The British Eurosport package on sky isn't nearly as good.
