VW Passat door issue

    Hi,

I have a 1.9TDI 07 Passat and the doors are acting up. Basically the passenger door stopped opening from the outside and I done some research and found that if you open the window and then open both the inside and outside lock at the same time, it can realign and it fixes the problem.

I done this on 3 occasions and it fixed the problem but last week it happened again and now the back passenger door is not working either... to make matters worse, the back passenger door has a childlock so it wont open from the inside.

I disconnected the battery for a minute and hoped that would reset the computer but that didn't work.

I took it to a mechanic and he is saying that the back door is a major problem and might have to knock the lock out. It seems this is a problem with VW, is there something that can be done or has anybody got any experience with this issue?

    Any advice is most appreciated.

Can the child lock on the passat be disabled via the on board computer ?

You couldn't on the one I had (06 Comfortline) - there's a physical key slot in the door frame that you use to activate/deactivate it (same on my current A6)

Of course, if you can't get the door open to get at it... :(

Yep, there is a little key slot inside the door. You cant pick it either as it uses levers rather than a cable. Looking like the door lock will have to be broken out. I will never buy a VW again, had Mazda's all my life and never had an issue, have had a few problems with this Passat.
