The new Chris Rock film "Top Five"

Has anyone seen it yet? Love me a bit of Chris Rock usually.

Synopsis

Though he began in stand-up comedy, Andre Allen (Chris Rock) hit the big-time as the star of a trilogy of action-comedies about a talking bear.

Andre is forced to spend the day with Chelsea (Rosario Dawson) a profile writer for the New York Times, whose film critic has just panned Andre's passion project about the Haitian Revolution.

Unexpectedly, Andre opens up to Chelsea, and as they wind their way across New York, Andre tries to get back in touch with his comedic roots.

A strong 87% on RT.

What're you on about? It has 87%! A lot of the more negative reviews seem like they've been partially fuelled by heightened expectations too (the film caused a crazy bidding war during it's premiere).

I'm expecting to like this a lot, like Chris Rock a lot and think he's capable of making a very entertaining film along these lines. Doubt it'll be perfect or anything but it should be fun.

Am looking forward to it even more now.

This was disappointing to say the least. Films that dont know if they're a Comedy or a Drama rarely work and Top 5 is no different.

I laughed twice and didnt care for the characters the way a Drama should make you, so it fails in both genres in my opinion. Cjris Rock is arguably one of the greatest stand up comedians of all time. His works on stage are like mini plays and they are all mostly perfection. But as an actor in films he does very little for me.

On the upside, his main co-star in the film Rosario Dawson is good here and extremely easy on the eye. Danny Boyle is a lucky man!
