Village magazine "outing" gay media person?

Chomping on a Big Mac the other day and to pass the time I had purchased a current copy of The Village. Given the sporadic publishing schedule of this magazine it was actually the December issue which had been out for a while and was still on the shelves because they don't do a January issue.

This is important because the issue probably hit the shelves BEFORE Health Minister Leo Varadkar came out as a gay man in mid January.

So with that hindsight I was quite shocked to see a little snippet in the magazine concerning a certain well known journalist who I will not name because there is no need to. It said

"In June he was the first to tweet that Fine Gaeler Leo Varadkar had been appointed minister for health -- he's his beau"

Now I know neither minister Varadkar nor the journalist in question personally. Maybe the relationship is well known in media circles. Maybe nobody gives a rat's ass any more about who's gay and about whom they're gay with (and good thing too). But isn't it a bit of an unnecessary intrusion of privacy to "out" a prominent public figure like this before he had publicly done so himself?

i don't think the Village outed a media person, I think they outed a Minister.

if a broadcaster who is on our airwaves morning and night is in a relationship a government Minister, I think we should know, he's bound to have been reporting on him.
