Hi there, currently we have the 3Mb modem but only receive 1.4Mb download speed and 0.3Mb upload speed. I was wondering if there is anyway to improve this maybe an upgrade to a different modem / offer but which would be best? The location is outside Dundalk towards Carlingford in Louth. we would pay around of E160 for phone and broadband every two months or so when the bill comes and this seems extortionate. just wondering if anybody could guide me to some good packages or deals before I ring them up so i know they wont try to pull a fast one on me. Thanks!

80 a month seems a lot, suppose it depends on what plan you initially signed up for.

Unless your modem/ router is faulty or if you have poorly done internal wiring, buying a new modem is unlikely to change much. The amount of service you get is dependant on external telephone line length and quality.

As regards the cost, if its broadband and anytime calls that you currently have,

Vodafone do it for €45/month, 18 month contract.
Sky do it for €42.50/month 12 month contract.
Magnet do it for €57/month, no contract

The first thing you should do is get your line stats and see what speed your line is actually capable of. This link explains the importance of line stats.
