I am thinking of buying an X3 , not any big plans made, it be later in the year once i save and Credit union loan sorted I guess. So nothing set in stone. I like BMW , have had a few , never any bothers for me thank god. Was thinking a Jeep style as I have a bad back and the seating position may help me my physio has said , I have been told I would have to go Auto box to less the stress on my arms and neck.
So does any one on here have one, or dare never have one ?
They are not popular where I live, but every time I go to Cork I see them every where.

Are you thinking of buying new or used?

Recenty had one as a rental and really liked it. I was expecting to hate it because for years I've hated them purely based on their looks. When I drove one though I loved it! Nice enough to drive in terms of handling, I found the seats really good and supportive, the iDrive is great as were all the other electronic things. For example, the cruise control just works really nicely and clearly:). The one we rented was a 2.0i with the 8 speed auto. Really liked the gearbox too but the engine is on the slow side!

I have arthritis and have had a hip replaced a few years ago as well. Partly due to that I've driven auto SUVs since 2002. Latest one is an X5. Great car and you will not disappointed. If you are buying a new or fairly new X3 then the latest 2 litre gives about 218bhp so no longer that slow (depending on what you are looking for of course).

iDrive is good, once you get used to it.

Had an 07 2.0D MSport manual from 6mths old for 6.5yrs, just changed at the end of the summer.
Only had one issue with it, when the aircom unit went at 2.5yrs, nice smile on my face when I pushed the bill back across the counter reminding them it was covered by the UK warranty :). Flywheel was probably nearing replacement when I changed.
Apart from that 100k happy miles, just serviced on the cycle (22k miles) nice compromise between the family bus and an SUV that drives closer to a car, would do it again.

The current model is exactly like a 3 series on stilts. Nice to drive and comes with leather as standard and other goodies. If it's the old model check out Jeremy clarksons review on top gear. He slated it.

It was the current one I was driving and thought it was fairly slow. It was fine really but if I could choose I would get a quicker one. 218bhp in a car that size is very average in terms of performance.

If the 2.0 is not fast enough for your driving style or where you need to drive then they make 3.0 ones as well... However, I drove both the 2 and 3 litre models and found there was not that much difference in normal day to day traffic around Dublin or Motorway runs, certainly not enough o justify the extra costs.

It could be very different if you were doing lots of country driving on non-dual carriageway routes as the extra power would be better for overtaking (extra power is always good).

Are you guys talking x5 or x3?
The current 2 litre x3 is 190hp and the 2 litre x5 is the twin turbo 218hp.
X5 needs the power obviously as bigger car.
Both also available as 3 litre with 258hp

thanks every one, oh an 5X be the job but it just be a waste realy. So plan now is X3. It be town and country driving alright. I just cant get my mind off the idea of having one for the last few months , so we see how budget goes later on and i would need to be buying some thing to last me and feel safe in.
