2006 1.6 Petrol Ford Focus - Won't go into gear

    Hi,

Having trouble with my Focus. It won't go into gear when the car is running. Grinds horribly when trying to go into reverse when running.

    Fluids are all okay.

Clutch has been over-traveling and getting stuck down recently. Has to be pulled back up by hand.

    Help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Is there any brake and clutch fluid in the reservoir? if it got low and air got into the system it would affect the operation. Although the brakes would probably be spongy too. So what I'm saying is it could be brake/clutch fluid contamination.

Loads, nearly at max and I haven't touched it in 5 months.

I wonder when the last time it was changed though. It should be clear in colour, even if it looks alright though chances are if it hasn't been changed in a long time it probably needs to be done now. Bad fluid can contaminate the clutch. I would start with bleeding the system (brakes and clutch) myself before bringing it to a mechanic.

I dropped it back to the garage as it's still under warranty, they think it might be the master cylinder.

Needed a new master cylinder. Been fine now for a month or so.
